Story

Let us introduce Jackdaw, Clapton’s very own Jazz Café, an independent family run venue that brings together all the elements for the perfect night out: great location; great drinks & food; great music; and a great space for your own gig, event or party.

Angela and Ash, long time East London residents, bring style and originality to everything from the quirky speakeasy(ish) vibe downstairs to aperitif’s served in vintage coupes and to kick back on later on in the evening.
After 50+ years in the NHS mental health between them they’ve made the move to a life that is all about socialising, eating, drinking and listening to great food music (always good for a person’s well being) especially when it is served in a warm and welcoming environment. Jackdaw’s now six months old, and certainly hitting the spot with discerning East Londoners

Many great gigs have already been performed downstairs and there’s a regular programme of Jazz, Funk, Blues and World Music, mainly at the weekends. We put on special one off gigs, mini residencies with an established band or DJ Ashworth plays you some retro vinyl (soul, funk, disco). Sunday afternoons the music moves upstairs for some acoustic tunes on the old Joanna We’re mixing it up a bit on Sunday evenings and have a few great events planned such as a charity comedy night, and some spoken word, so keep an eye on our list of events on Facebook or why not hold your own?

There is a great space on the ground floor for waring, drinking, chilling out, socialising (or even working?). There is a beautiful bar/counter area from which we serve simple but tasty snacks all day everyday. We also serve a hand picked selection of wines, beers and classic cocktails (Conor makes a mean Old Fashioned!). We have a small but growing selection of Scottish malts and Guyanese rum which go down very well later in the evening. It’s table service upstairs and downstairs so just relax and let us do all the work – it’s what makes us happy.

Whether your grabbing a quick coffee on your way to work, enjoying your own company or the company of family, friends or colleagues over a sot of lunch or fancy dropping by for a few beers downstairs and watch some great music, you can be sure the the same Scottish/Yorkshire- Hackney/Guyanese welcome from owners Angela and Ash.
