Beautiful views across Strangford Lough. You can have a lovely walk across the causeway to the island at low tide slippery surface and walk around the island. Be aware of the tides at all times, you can get stranded as the tide comes in very quickly! Restrooms: Basic but clean when we visited. Dog-friendliness: You can walk your dog along the path and let it swim at high tide. Keep to the paths, at low tide there are deep mud flats beside the river. Picnic area: Picnic benches. Bring your rubbish home with you and pick up your own litter. #leavenotrace #keepnorthernirelandtidy #liveherelovehere #DiscoverNorthernIreland.
Have experienced both the high tide and low tide, as soon as its low tide pathaay to the island seems clear and walkable, be carefull of the pathway might be slippery some time. Nice place for your dogs as well.
Great spot for walk around rough island via causeway ,but check the tides first. Plenty of parking and toilets to,I go here also for easy access to water for some kayaking fun.
Beautiful walk along the coast and the island. Just be careful of the changing of the tides, you don't want to get stuck! Dog-friendliness: Plenty of people walking their dogs. Picnic area: A few picnic benches are available.
Beautiful location at North West short of Strangford Lough. Ideal for picnic, or short walk across causeway or around island. Suitable for dogs. Beware of high tide making causeway uncrossable. Toilets open during day. Ruins of small house on island. Great views
Really worth a trip. Its not far beyond the end of the Comber Greenway. Watch the tides!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful to walk around rough island, just be careful with dogs if tide is out, sinking sands Restrooms: On site toilet block Dog-friendliness: Good for dogs at high tide but dangerous at low tide, sinking sands where dogs have been sucked in Picnic area: Picnic tables in car park
Nice walk, short. Steel hill going down so if you have a pram or wheelchair you would need to be careful. Can walk around the island but can be narrow in places and some muddy sections so wear wellies
Nice place to go for a short walk around the island but beware of the tide times as the causeway will cover over and will only be crossable with getting wet legs Lovely views down the Lough, Ards and Comber as well as both sides of the shoreline. Decent place for a picnic. Also good to see the settings sun
Fantastic place near Comber that looks out onto Strangford Lough and across to Scrabo Tower in Newtownards. The highlight is that you can cross a concrete causeway to Rough Island at low tide. It takes 5 minutes to cross the causeway and you can walk around the small island in 10 minutes. People spend much longer here swimming, picnicking, playing, sunbathing and walking. There's a large carpark with public toilets, benches and picnic tables. You can check the tide times for Comber online and that will tell you when you can cross safely.
