Seems to be missed reviews for this place, so perhaps it is the luck if the dip; in which case dipped out. We booked at the last minute 6:30pm for 8pm, a table for 6. When we arrived to a near empty restaurant it's a Monday, we were asked to wait for 5 mins, why they sorted out a table. Left standing by the bar we were clearly in the way from the attitude of the waitress. Once seated the menu looked good. We ordered drinks, but not being ready to order food the first time the waitress came to the table, seemed to lead to a total lack of future service. We were not asked if everything was right with the food, whether we wanted more drinks, wanted more food, such as dessert, and I had to go to the bar to ask for the bill. The waiter who ended up serving us was courteous, but kept going out the door behind us for a cigarette, which you could smell on him. When we did see the waitress it was when she popped her head around the corner to stare at us, before disappearing. She did take my payment at the end, although gave an audible 'huff' when I pulled out my credit card. To her credit she skipped over the gratuity option on the machine. Food wise, the options were good. Out starters were all very good. Reasonable size, served hot and tasty. Two of our party had pizza mains, which were dripping with garlic oil. Far to much for put taste, and the garlic bread was so strong none of us could eat it. We cannot comment about dessert as we did not get chance to order any. Yes, I could have asked for the menu, but by this time we were the last in the restaurant 9:30pm and you know when you are not welcome. Overall I'd rate the food a 2/5 and the service 0/5. My only tip would be to the owner; if you don't want to provide a service after a certain time mid week, don't take the booking. For customers reading this, see the review by Chris a week earlier. I am not sure I would have taken word for it beforehand, but clearly we are not the only ones to experience such awful service at this place.
Food excellent, staff lovely. Better to choose indoors if it is hot/windy since it is easier there too hot with door closed or too windy with door open...and it seems to attract flies too. Don't let that put you off though, the food is really good.

Poor service and terrible staff, We've been to many restaurants over the years and never been treated the way we have been here. From the beginning the service was very slow as it was clear that they were massively understaffed, we had to wait close to 20min before someone asked us for a drink or if we wanted to order. We started with the mushrooms witch took quite a long time and were cold my partner had the same problem. I've got mine back quite quickly nicely microwaved as it was boiling in the middle and warm on the outside. As a main I had the pork ribeye which was over cooked and bone dry but du to the long waiting time true out I count be bothers to send it back. My partner had an sirloin but had trimmings missing, the children had pizza which was dripping in grease, when some of us were finished with there food the waitress came to clear the table without asking and tried to remove a plate from one of the children that was still eating, so we said something about this, as they should have asked if we were done, at no point during our meal were we checked upon to see if we were happy with our food. When we complained again at the end of the evening we were treated very rood and the saff said to us: these are the kind of people we have to deal with. Well sorry but if your food and service are up to stretch then u won't get complaints. He told us to take all out complaints to the chef when he came out he was understanding and helpful, he was trying to sort something out for us as it wasn't the first time we eat here. The owner pretty much flipped out and called me a basted, and demanding that we paid and locked us inside with the children who were very destresed. At no point did we refuse to pay for our meal. The owner said to me your not even an head chef u know nothing...... Well ectually I am, as I've been one for over 20 years and even better I own my own restaurant now. So yeah I know what I'm talking about and I've never seen anyone treat a costumer the way that this owner did or un willingness to resolve anything, and I've been in the industry for over 20 years. My compliment to the chef for trying to sort an very disappointing evening out for us.
Great food and service. Comfortable and relaxed. Venison was my personal choice and it was excellent. Apologies if our table was too raucous Saturday 20 Jan.
Surprisingly stylish Italian restaurant which has the happy combination of being affordable too. As a result, gets pretty busy. The usual range of food pizza, pasta, risotto etc but all very authentic and of a quality you associate with big cities. Some very efficient and Italian staff, and also some what looks like less efficient local help. But that's a small quibble for a great place on the edge of Barnard Castle. Spacious too. Highly recommended.
Very good quality food, with expert waiting staff that seemed to nip any grievances in the bud, before you knew you even had one. Very high standard of service. I would highly recommend!
The food here is superb one of the best meals I've ever had, highly recommend the fillet steak and prawns. However evening was slightly let down by slow and inattentive staff having to wait / call staff over to get and remind them about items ordered.
Went here for my partners birthday while on holiday! Food was delicious and well priced the service was second to none and we have a genuinely lovely time
