The Bengal Merchant came highly recommended by local people as somewhere that serves great food and was open late. Me and my colleagues were working till around 10:30pm, and the staff agreed to stay open just so we could get some dinner at the end of a long day. The staff were so welcoming and didn't rush us, even though it meant they would be getting home late. They gave us great service with a personal touch! The food was uniformly excellent, my chicken tikka massala really hit the spot, and all my colleagues had a massive smile on their face after getting a thoroughly cracking meal. I hope we get a chance to pass back through Barnard Castle sometime and dine here again.

Went to Barny for a curry at 10.15 pm and we were planning on going to Spice Island.we were dissapointed to find that it closes at 9.30 on a Friday night 😕weird , we found this restaurant open and it turned out to be a really good experience Very helpful and friendly staff and food was great... They have just got 4 new customers who will return soon..

Great curry, great service and perfect location. Especially for our large group of 30+ Staff are always very helpful. We come to Bernard Castle once a year and always book the Bengal Merchant.
