I'm just here for the beer; and it's all good. About 16+ on tap all Hammerton or Hammerton collaborations. There's a fridge stocked with cans too. Nice relaxed atmosphere, Board games and Connect Four to borrow, Led Zep and others playing in the background. As I said: It's all good.
Highbury & Islington  £5.95 Danke Pilsner A North London beer lover’s paradise. . The House of Hammerton is located on the ever busy Holloway Road. The nearest tube is Highbury & Islington which is five minutes down the road. . Formerly The Wig & Gown, The House of Hammerton is part of a Victorian terrace that is made up of an eclectic mix of business’s from a Taxi rank to a Georgian restaurant. There is a bizarre fact attached to this pub, On 4 February 1970, John Lennon and Yoko Ono popped by for a strange publicity stunt, where they arrived with newly shorn heads and a bag of their own hair. They swapped the hair with a local activist for a pair of bloodied Muhammed Ali shorts on the roof of the building. I’m not sure what “the message” was, maybe hair today gone tomorrow or more importantly, Give beer a chance! I’ll get me coat. . The decor here is simple with lots of low level seating. There is a good size servery, it looks like it has been constructed out of railway sleepers which wouldn’t look out of place in a log cabin. At the back of the bar is a colourful mural with comfy chesterfield sofas. . This pub belongs to @hammertonbrew brewery which is situated just a mile away. The pub offers a vast selection of beers that hail from the brewery including 20 keg and 4 cask options. After cruising the pumps, if thats a thing! I decided on a Danke Pilsner. This was a new beer to me and I really enjoyed it. There is also a bottle and can shop if you want some bevvies to go. . I visited around 5pm for a few shants on my way to see The Arsenal. The pub had a few punters in sampling the many brews on offer here. The atmosphere was convivial and staff were welcoming. The pub also hosts quiz and open mic nights, check out there insta for upcoming events. . @hammertonhouse is a beer lover’s paradise set in a simple and welcoming environment. The staff really know there stuff and help guide you through the right tipple for you. I visited this pub many times over the years and have to say the latest incarnation is a triumph. . ℹ Info correct on visiting 06/10/22
Very good beers and a nice atmosphere. Really appreciated that there were three sours on tap. Bold and adventurous flavours too. Also found the nitro stout to be very pleasant.
Right, soooo…I love Hammerton. My husband and I have been coming for years. The beers are superb and the staff always super friendly. Their pub quiz is our favourite and we’ve even won once!. But this review is not about those things or I would’ve given a full 5 stars. This review is about the food. The nachos on their “new” menu specifically. We ordered them last night on the recommendation of the lovely barmaid was between those and the loaded fries. I can honestly say they were the worst nachos I’ve ever had. The sour cream and guacamole tasted the same flavourless and seemed like they were squeezed out of a tube. They skimped on the cheese and the tortilla chips were obv the last of the bag…it was pretty much all tiny pieces/crumbs on the whole bottom layer. If it were me serving I wouldn’t have walked out of the kitchen with them! Overall, not nice to look at and even worse to eat. But eat them I did as I was starving - would’ve sent them back but I was hangry and desperate for food. And - obv the photos on the “new menu” cards are stock photos, which is a shame as those nachos looked amazing! TL:DR: Avoid the nachos at the Hammerton. Horrendous!
Very good beer, knowledgeable staff, nice relaxed vibe. Be warned that if that lot from Woolwich are playing, you might end up surrounded by Gooners...
Really friendly service and a really tasty selection of regular as well as gluten free beer. They have one of their own gluten free beers on tap, as well as a few others bottled/canned. Takeout is an option as well!
Some very interesting beers -many of them very local!- in correspondingly interesting glasses and you can get 1/3 pints, too. The staff have always been very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. It's a relaxed atmosphere, inside, though at times a little studenty due to the nearby university and halls of living. Make sure you grab one of the two barrel-tables on the pavement and watch the wonders of bustling Holloway Road whilst sipping on one of Hammerton's finest offerings.
Nice vibe. They even have non alcoholic beer on tap! #Winning yes the beer tasted amazing
Great selection of beers both by Hammerton and other local and not so local breweries. Four cask beers as well as lots of keg craft beer. Good bottle selection.
I love this place, easy walking distance from tube station, right there on the main road, nice atmosphere , nice vibe, very friendly, children and dog friendly, we had the beef Sunday Roast and it was to die for! The ice cream is sooo good, you can actually taste the real strawberries, inmense variety of beers their own and friends and other drinks to choose from, and they also have their special peruvian roast chicken which is delicious and my favourite , tequeños, yum! Definitely a place to keep coming back to bookings advised but they also try and accomodate walks in, really recommend it !
