My wife and I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Feb 2026, while visiting family. Fantastic value for money. The staff were great, and arranged for our daughter to be in the next door room when she arrived for a single night at the end of our stay. The hotel was spotless and the room was a decent size. Quiet stay throughout, other than the usual hotel noise as people head to their rooms. There's a Wetherspoons two minutes away if you're eating/drinkinh on a budget. The included breakfast was good.
For a budget hotel this will be fine.nRooms were clean and some things were provided. I would have liked more tea bags as there were 4 of us in the room but only 2 bags were provided. We could have gotten more from reception but after a long day, you dont really want to be traipsing up and down to get tea bags.nBreakfast buffet was ok too, good selection. The food is as to be expected for a 3star hotel.nStaff were also ok, not massively welcoming or friendly but there to do a job.nLocation was good, in city so easy to get to lots of places. Not much parking though so we were lucky to get a space.
So initial we were placed in a room on first floor which smelled like fish and the view was a wall which was really not nice. Since we were staying for multiple days and the smell was intense we asked if there are any other rooms and they gave us a top floor room which was completely different and so much better. The fact that the price is the same for these two rooms made me feel a bit confused on the review. The first room would have made our experience quite sad but the second room made it so much better. The breakfast was lacking fresh food with no oats, not much fruits or fresh dishes. Sadly we only ate the yoghurt and coffee but for the price it was good. The location is good and overall had a good experience!
Excellent place to stay. Staff helpful and friendly. Rooms clean. Soap etc in bathroom. Good standard kettle and drink ingredients in the room. TV with lots of channels. Breakfast delicious and hot. Lots of choice. Staff have no problem if clients want to make a snack for later. All public places cleaned to a high standard. Smoking shelter in the car park. Hotel positioned very central. Will definitely book again.
Clean, comfortable room and genuinely helpful service at the front desk. The location is excellent and very convenient for the city centre.nnUnfortunately, the breakfast experience seriously undermined the positives. Once staff started cleaning the buffet line, they did not simply make a general closing announcement — they approached guests at their tables and directly told us to leave. In our case, they even handed us a tray and instructed us to take the remaining food out to the lobby and finish it there instead.nnI understand breakfast has set hours, but this is not an acceptable or hospitable way to handle it. Guests who are already seated and eating should be allowed to finish their meal without being pressured to relocate. If the restaurant needs to stop service, a far more professional approach would be clear last-service communication and a polite, discreet process — not actively moving people out mid-meal. This single issue spoiled what otherwise could have been a good stay.
