Edit Dec 2023 Disappointing finish to the rental when we were slapped GBP 270 for a little scratch low down on the front bumper which the sensors did not locate. When inspected on return, Alastair dismissed it as minor and negligible so we were shocked to receive a quote later with the estimated amount which became the actual charge. If I hadn’t washed and cleaned the vehicle before return, I doubt it would have even been noticed! No evidence was presented of the repair with a charge that also included downtime whilst under repair! Wonder if it was ever repaired given that the so-called quote became the final charge just a couple of days later after we were told it could take 90 days! Whilst we were pleased with the upgrade to the SUV, in hindsight we would have preferred the Compact car we had booked as the roads in the UK are very narrow with hedges rubbing against the car sides often having to find passing points not only for passing cars but also for the occasional bus or truck! Parking anywhere in the UK is also a nightmare with narrow spaces and tight turning areas. Strongly felt this scratch should have been put down to wear and tear but Hertz refused to accept that. Regrettably we have to downgrade the previous 5 star review to 3 star due to what we saw as opportunistic behaviour by Hertz after a 52 day rental. July 2023 Alastair and Catalina provided us with exceptional service when we picked up our rental vehicle for 52 days which was booked and paid for in Australia. The compact car we booked was upgraded to a brand new Toyota C-HR Hybrid with 5 miles on the clock! We arrived early after disembarking from a cruise ship at 7.30 am and Alastair opened the doors for us even though we were there half an hour before opening time. He was efficient, cheerful, respectful and very helpful even loading our suitcases into the car. There was no attempt to sell us anything more than we had paid for which seems standard for rental companies worldwide now! Believe this is a new management team and they certainly know the meaning of customer service and keeping customers happy. Highly recommended and a credit to Hertz.
Love it. Smashing service. We had rented a car from eurocar, we waited 40 min and they told us they didn't have a car for two more hours, we walked in to hertz and she found is a car, no reservation and we were in and out in ten minutes. Thank you for saving our vacation.
My last rental experience at Hertz was excellent. This has been edited from a 1 to a 5 star in just a few months. Brilliant change of staff and processes.
I was dropping my rental car off there on a one-way trip. They were closed, but they had instructions for car drop off and key drop. I put the key in the mailbox slot with an envelope and paperwork instead of the key drop. When they opened, they emailed me when they couldn't find the key. They were very polite about it. They looked in their mailbox, found the key, and notified me. Final charges were as estimated.
After my experience 5 years ago, I said I wouldn't rent from Hertz again. However, I was tempted by a really good online deal. I rented a Polestar 2. It was my first time with an EV. The Southampton Hertz team were really helpful with getting us on the road. We unfortunately scuffed the wheelarch during the one month rental, but - unlike last time where we were accused of minor damage we didn't do, then charged GBP800+ to fix it, which I successfully disputed - Hertz charged us fairly. Overall, it was a very smooth experience.

The staff really need to shape up. They're so unwelcoming and disorganised. I returned an electric vehicle, they guy snapped at me, asking how much charge was in it. This was after I said it hadn't been plugged in, despite being told that I would have the option to pay upon return. The lady on the phone also gave incorrect information.
Staff is nice. But be carefull if you are renting a van Mercedes Sprinter KV68UTJ. There is a leak on the roof. The staff unfortunately didn't trust me I was too busy to protect my boxes and I didnt think about filming it...
We've returned our car with a full tank as requested on Monday 22nd of Aug 5pm Vauxhall Grandland 1.2, blue colour, and received a bill for 70£ days later because of fuel charges. Despite we have the credit card statement showing a charge happening at the local gas station minutes before our drop-off, and for an amount that matches the miles driven during the rental driven miles confirmed by the agency in the receipt, we're being asked for an itemised receipt to prove that. At no point the staff recommended that we'd better ask & save the receipt for fuel. As things are looking like right now, it looks like a purposeful scam to charge almost 50% more of the agreed rental price. It's a real shame, as the person giving us the vehicle on Friday was a really nice and solid person. Stay away from this agency, first time ever this happened to me and it's very disconcerting. --- Edited, the Hertz support team agreed to refund the charge. Learning: you never know, take a picture of the receipt.
The worse customer service ever specially lady in the glasses unprofessional rude arrived 18mim after schedule picking car where it’s actually nothing about it In terms and conditions I was 18 min late and she told my car was rent to someone else I trying to give me eclectic car with additional cost of £20 per day ! So I left with nothing took my money no way of getting this cancel or help from her for example checking if the other herz brunch might have my car . Terrible one of the worst experiences in my rental History they now Have charged me £70 for not showing up because refused to take the most expensive electric car !!!!
