My pick-up was a breeze. Despite arriving 45 minutes early they rustled up a suitable car which, though not the vehicle I was expecting, turned out to be a little gem. The entire process was smooth and effortless and I was even given a tutorial on the navigation system by an incredibly patient employee. This proved to be invaluable to me as I would not have been able to make the trip without it. Five stars.
I hired and used a Europcar van. It was a midsized Citroen van which I used for barely 2 hours. Covering 41 miles in total. The van has a stated urban fuel consumption of 46mpg. Just before returning the van I put 5 litres of diesel in the tank. The next day, when I was sent an invoice they had added a charge of almost £19, including VAT, for a further 9 litres of diesel. In other words, they were suggesting I had used 14 litres of fuel to travel those 41 miles. You decide if that's a rip -off or not.
Booked a car on the evening on 14/06, for collection on 15/05 at 08:30. Upon arrival on the morning of 15/05, it seemed like they were having a busy day at the branch with few Cruise Ships clearly in Southampton. There was only 1 agent, can't remember this guys name, but he was very good, very professional, friendly, tried to build a rapport, extremely good, and efficient. Dealt with everyone very attentively, took all the customers outside to show around the their cars etc. One of the customer, I overheard, booked the car for 11am, so the agent explained that unfortunately, he did not have a car available at that particular moment bearing in mind it was 08:30am, however he did explain that the cars were on the way from Brighton, and additionally the agent offered to store their luggage, whilst the customers can go grab a coffee or something. He dealt with the situation very well, and the customer was understating as well. My collection process was very smooth, and very efficient, he confirmed my return date/time, confirmed what type of car I booked, went through the cover options, all the things that you would expect, whilst engaging in a friendly chat about my upcoming trip. The allocated car was MG small SUV type car, I think it was HS. The car was clean throughout, had a full tank of fuel, and under 5k miles on the clock. There was a giant 'bird poo' on the rear window, which the agent did apologise stating that he did not realise it was there. As they were extremely busy, with people queuing up, and the rest of the car was really good, I didn't mind it at all, and was happy to take the car he did talk me through some of the basics controls as well - how to put it into reverse, how to open the fuel cap, electric handbrake and some other minor quirks of the car. I returned the car this morning 20/05, and arrived at the branch/location at 07:45, the branch opens at 08:00, the doors were open, so I just entered the premises and waited in the customer waiting area. I was the only customer there, until another customer arrived, soon after me. As soon as it was 08:00, a lady agent appeared from the back office. She noticed that I've got car keys in my hand, and asked if I was just returning the car, to which I replied that I am. She said that she'll take the keys and that's all done then. I asked if I could get a receipt, and she mentioned that I would get it automatically once the car gets checked. I asked if the car could get checked now, as I'd like to have a peace of mind, before I leave the premises. And then she said: "WE'RE VERY BUSY, YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER RETURNING A CAR" She seemed to have an attitude, she came across quite rude, someone must have upset her, but then, I was the very first customer that morning, and only returning a car, I didn't feel it was unreasonable to ask for the car to be checked in. She did go outside reluctantly to check the car, and basically I felt like I am being an inconvenience to her 'busy' day, bearing in mind I am a paying customer and all I asked for was for the car to be inspected, so that I could leave the branch. She did inspect the car, said that it was all fine and explained, again, that I'll receive a receipt in my e-mails. Overall, I was very/extremely pleased but it was ALL ruined within 5 mins of interacting with the agent upon my return, where I felt not welcome and not important as a customer. As they say, last impressions matter.
No problems with the car or staff. My issue relates to the excessive charges for a 2nd driver £15 per day or in our case £150 for the entire rental when Europcar in New Zealand only charges £7 per rental. What costs are incurred in adding a name to the rental agreement that could justify this amount. Just plain gouging.
Hassle-free rent from start to finish. Great service from the friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone!
Excellent service , staff very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Lovely new van ,no issues making our 400mille trip a pleasure. Many thanks will use again and highly recommend service price quality and ease. Excess insurance a must .
Car did not turn up when promised, leaving me stranded at a repair shop. Awful service and very difficult to get hold of The branch as the number kept going to the HQ where they were just as unhelpful.
EuropCar has gone downhill quickly. The van we hired was in shocking condition. I was offered a small discount off CAR hire next time but that doesn’t make up for the rubbish state of this van at all. Customer service just not interested. Update: despite the reply on here saying how sorry they were and to contact CS to find a solution, that’s all for the sake of appearances. CS offered a very modest refund and a discount on CAR rental not van because, and I quote, “our policy doesn’t allow that”. The copy and paste platitudes and inane statements about how seriously they take complaints are just a smokescreen for under delivery and a lack of care. Suffice to say, I won’t rent a van or car from them again because - once they have your money - they don’t care about the customer experience.
When made the booking been told is 3 working days till you get your deposit back...is actualy 10 you don't have them and they use your money.... 40 min waiting time till was able to get the key aloat of damages on the van not specified on the papers 10 min to amend theat. only good thing was the swuift return
