The staff at St Michael’s are the friendliest and most professional I have encountered in the gyms I have held membership in or visited over the years. They always remember your name and are available to help with any queries you have. What I particularly like about this Gym is the very varied selection of classes and wide breath of equipment. It is also nice to see the mixed generational make up of the members. I do 9 classes a week, so 36 a month, on my membership, that works out at £1.38 a class! A swim, steam and sauna is always a nice treat to myself afterwards and costs me nothing. I would recommend this Gym to anyone from total fitness beginners upwards.
The health club is a friendly and welcoming environment with good facilities. I have been a member for many years and take advantage of the excellent instructor led classes to develop my fitness and well being and to support me to build my strength and endurance for events. I took part in three triathlon camps, through which I made many new friends and gained a real sense of achievement. I enjoy relaxing on the pool, sauna and steam rooms too, especially after a dip in the sea! I have recently signed up for the extra benefits of the wellness membership with dedicated personal training and a spa session each month.
Overpriced gym, always full of people and hard to get onto equipment. Cleanliness is poor considering the super high prices. I always found the changing rooms to have mud on the floors and no shower gel/ shampoo. Also, be careful you don’t get fined £100 for parking in the car park. The gym contract sneakily states that health club members can’t use the car park without paying even after charging £60+ a month!! Wouldn’t recommend to anybody, there are cheaper and better gyms in the area. Very disappointing.
Room is very small for 2 grown men, plus only 4 hangers to share. Bed is too small and too soft but overall will have to do. The staff is pleasant but stiff. Seems to me they need to relax and talk to their customers, very robitic style, even though its a nice spa, its not all that is made up to be. Very cut and dry service. Food time is weak, no sense of urgency and waiting 35 minutes for cold bread is absurd. Overall, my experience was okay, nothing to brag about. Doubt very seriously if I would return.
The cleanliness of the changing rooms is shocking. I am a member and I have complained 4 times in the last few months yet nothing seems to be done about this. They have increased the prices quite substantially this year children's membership has almost doubled so I don't understand why they can't pay their staff more to clean the facilities. There is regularly pink mould around the water fountain, hair on the floor and dirt and grime on the tiles. I even cleaned the floor myself this week as I did not want to walk on the floor in bare foot. It was that filthy. The response from staff if always that they are about to do a deep clean but they don't seem to understand the importance of cleaning on a daily basis. I would not recommend a membership here. We won't be continuing once our year's membership is over. Further to the other review - I agree with the issue of children jumping and diving in. I have, again, brought this to the staff's attention but nothing is done about it. It is very dangerous. I take my own three children and do not let them jump in as it's not that kind of environment. Other parents don't seem to have consideration for others. This is where the staff need to step in but they do not.
All good apart of changing rooms mens and womens - the floor always disgusting, wet and dirty. Mop should be done at least once in every 30 minutes. The staff are always standing talking and not checking the changing rooms. I went there today and the staff member were talking about personal things such as how they got drunk last night and how hangover they feel today. Also the members dont change the shoes Thay just walk in to changing rooms.
Having visited previously a few years ago as we live locally for a swim and to use the other facilities Steam Room & Sauna It now seems to be that you get charged a day rate of £20, this is great if you intend to use all day but perhaps on the odd occasion for an hour or so in the evening this is expensive, previously there was an option for this which I was £10-12 per visit. Having accepted this after being abruptly explained this on reception I now get told they won’t take cash! So walked back down to the road where we had to park to retrieve a card as the carpark was full. Once we were finally in it was 7.45pm having checked the website before it said last entry was 8.30pm and they closed at 9.30pm weekdays. The facilities were great as always and really clean. We were in the Steam Room at ten to 9 to then have a staff member come in to say ‘time to get out now, we’ve given you long enough’ in other words we want to get off home so hurry up and leave, there were several people getting ushered back to the changing rooms. It certainly doesn’t take over half an hour to get changed. Pretty much made to feel we weren’t wanted from start to finish and ended up paying £20 for a hour. I even left by mistake with my electronic wrist band for the locker as i didn’t want to hold you up any further! We looked into membership beforehand as obviously that’s the way they want you to do it and price wise this is better but after this experience I think we will pass, shame as the place itself is really nice, just maybe not the attitude of the staff.
This health club has so much potential to be a fantastic facility, but I feel that for the amount of money they charge for a membership, the regularity and length of time facilities and equipment are out of order it is not really justified showers and sauna regularly out of order, lockers dont work and far too small, gym equipment takes far to long to repair. I also feel there is significantly more room for cardio equipment which limits the amount of available space for weight training, which can be seen when members are waiting for weights or machines etc to free up. On a positive note, cleanliness in the gym is perfect and customer service from the staff is great too.
Fantastic pool, hydro pool, sauna and steam room for all ages. We stayed at St Michaels hotel and resort and booked a lovely morning swim. Perfect mini pool for tiny tots as well. Staff super friendly, helpful, facilitation safe and very clean.
Spent £30 on a swim for a friend and I in the ‘health spa’, just to swim for a total of around 20mins out of the couple hours we were there because it was packed with kids jumping off the sides and even worse, off of the tall wall by the seating. It was super dangerous and no one came to sort it out. I’m only 30, I’m all for kids having fun, but there were no signs saying kids would be in there, it says no diving but the kids were bombing in and chucking each other in front of people swimming, and when you’re at a spa to swim and relax, it doesn’t really cut it. We spent more time persuading each other to try and stick it out because we used to love going. I told the lady on the desk- and she shrugged it off, and said ‘yeah, sorry, it happens’. So a severe health and safety issue doesn’t concern them, or the fact that a set of customers who return on a monthly basis for the past 5 years don’t want to come back. Really disappointed I wasn’t even offered a refund or spoken to without attitude. I was polite and didn’t raise my voice, I work with young people for a living and used to be in retail management, so I usually understand and won’t complain. But this was negligent to say the least.
