About

This working windmill is the only inner city windmill in the UK, producing award winning spelt and wheat flour. Paired with the George Green Museum and Science Centre the site provides a fun and free day out for the whole family.

Story

Built in 1807 by a Nottingham baker, this windmill was inherited by his son George, who would later become a famous mathematician.

After a period of neglect the mill was restored and reopened in 1985, with milling starting again in 1986. Today the site has become a vibrant area of entertainment and discovery.

Buy award winning organic flour from the volunteers in the shop and find out about the workings of the mill from the miller. Learn about Green's Theorem and try to solve the puzzles in the Science Centre. Follow one of the trails or join in an activity. There's something for all the family!

We held our 4 year old's party here after another venue let us down last minute. The team did a fantastic job and everyone enjoyed themselves with pizza making, fun in the interactive area and a tour up the windmill. Would definitely recommend for parties. Thank you to everyone for letting us have our party there and sorting everything out with very little notice. We also spied the play park on the way out so will be back in the summer to try that out too.

I wish I'd read up a little more / applied some logic on my part. I brought my little girl who isn't confident with stairs, let alone a very steep stair ladder type thing in the windmill itself. This is my fault. She loved watching the windmill sales go round and the science centre was great. We had lots of interesting talk about magnets.

Very friendly staff. Just a nice place to visit if you happen to be nearby. There is much for young children to do and a lot for adults to learn about. It is an interesting place and make sure you buy their flour that is made on site.

Very interesting working mill and mini science museum. We'll worth the visit and dedicated car park is quite large. Like park and grass areas surrounding the mill. Interesting history and family story.

Despite everything here being a bit tired and old the science centre is still interesting for little ones, my 7 year old loved it! The park here is also needing some tlc but can fill half an hour. My daughter especially liked seeing the mill working.
