We popped down here for lunch and was thoroughly impressed by everything! The menu is healthy and delicious, practically everything is made fresh on site and the specials board is changed regularly, there's beautiful patisserie items and scrumptious salads, along with big portions of meat and fish dishes too. The service was lovely and the decor was very relaxed and modern, nice music in the background too. The whole place just seemed like it could be somewhere else entirely, it felt strange to walk back outside and be in debden. They've done very well here and the locals should be flocking to this place, everything was reasonably priced and the cocktails and healthy smoothies were expertly made. Will certainly be going back.
A pleasant after school visit for few milkshakes for kids. Friendly although a little abrupt waitress who pounced on us when we entered and told us the kitchen was closed. But this was fine because we wanted milkshakes and rainbow cake!! All were delicious. I would go back. Waitress was child friendly and accepted our wandering toddler etc. Thanks green owl. We will be back.
The food is amazing and the interior is delightful with plenty of space and seating. Must also mention that the staff are so accommodating, such friendly and helpful people.
We went for the first time today and loved it. The menus is more brunch/lunch and dinner not a breakfast menu but a brunch menu is more my style. It looks lovely, the staff were really good, the food was equally as amazing. This will be my new brunch spot
I highly recommend the green owl canteen for a great spot of brunch. Their staff are so friendly and the food is always great. The menu is broad and they always have specials on their board that regularly change. Portion sizes are generous and the restaurant is very clean. Great addition to the high street
Popped in for the first time and had coffee and cake the menu looked lovely if quite pricey but we werent that hungry. Not much selection when it came to cakes/pastries and nothing small and savoury. Lovely decor but awful accoustics making it very noisy and hard to hold a conversation even though it wasnt busy. Coffees took an age to come and then were lukewarm, mentioned this to waitress as we left who was very friendly and sweet but seemed a bit nonplussed. Probably wouldnt rush back.
Been a few times. Food and Service is great. Was taken aback yesterday when being charged £2.60 for a glass of hot water and a slice of lemon. I know everyone has overheads but being that we had lunch hot water should be free. It wont stop me going back. Maybe it should be looked at.
Nice relaxing atmosphere, good decor, excellent service.... burger looked fantastic really thick beef, good looking bun but tasted awful, absolutely no seasoning in the burger not even a pinch of salt and pepper, pink inside the middle. If they are going to serve burgers with meat that thick they should ask how well cooked you want your burger I wouldn't have eaten it if it weren't for the non branded ketchup and u generally don't put ketchup on my burgers Disappointed in spending £32 for 2 burgers and chips, a bacon butty and one milkshake and 1 small coke... that's the last £ they are getting from me, when are canteen owners going to learn that just because they make the interior look nicer than others on the street they can't charge more for their food if its poor quality...the chips were only okay but full of dripping oil. it's a shame as the staff were very friendly...I was hoping that this was going to be my new go-to place for a quick bite but that's a big no-no. Thumbs down for this canteen. Sorry...
I decided to give the new place ago today so I decided to take my father to see what it was like. We both decided to have the English breakfast cost over 8 pounds I would be expecting decent breakfast did not come with tea or coffee or toast or bread so we added toast and we added to coffee is on as well. The breakfast came out looking nice. Bacon had been pre-cooked and then just heated up which is never a good idea for bacon The beans what described as posh beans although all they was were mixed been in a watery tomato sauce which I was not impressed with. Then we come to the mushrooms which also had been pre-cooked which makes them Rubbery and chewy. Total cost of two substandard breakfasts two coffee i and two toasts came to £28. I spend four nights on my week working away eating out and I would have to say this comes in bottom three places I’ve ever ate at. Needless to say I will not be going back here and unless things change this place we close down very shortly because they will not make a profit if you can’t get customers to return. I not complaining about the price what I am saying is the food needs to be edible and as a manager I was over 150 people for 32 years I know your business will not last if you feed customers bland precooked food.
my daughter 17 walked in to the owl canteen. ordered their take out food then paid for the order. while waiting for their food they were approached by a member of staff she said to them "ok ladies what did you take " implying that they had stolen something. they had to explain they were waiting for food. and felt very embarrassed and insulted. great first visit. don't think we will be recommending for our friends to eat there in a hurry. food was nice but nothing special.
