The George at Cambridge

Story

Step back in time at The George. This old fashioned country Inn has a quaint and welcoming family atmosphere.

Our Bistro offers you an informal dining experience without compromising food quality or service. The restaurant has been refurbished and with a contemporary ambiance that is a must for any occasion. Food is served all day, every day, from breakfasts to evening meals; be sure to try our popular 12oz sizzling steak!

Another main asset of the George is its large beer garden, split into two sections of peaceful riverside area and the new, large children’s play ground where there are plenty of benches for you to relax.

We went on a busy Sunday for the carvery and it was delicious. We had booked 1st, which I would suggest as it was busy. The staff were attentive, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Reasonably priced and a good selection of both food and drinks.Service: 5/5
Went here 19/03/23 for Mother’s Day. We hadn’t realised it was carvery only. I’m really sorry to say this was the worst roast dinner I’ve ever eaten. The meat was like leather, Yorkshire pudding were cold, roast potatoes tasted liked they had been there hours, 5 out if 6 of us left at least half of the meal. I really liked the menu previously here but we won’t be returning anytime soon!
Took a while to be seated on arrival. Shown to a table that was not suitable for two and a baby chair. Told we couldn’t have a bigger table on the basis a larger party might turn up and need it not reserved. Decided to leave.
When we visited the pub was closed for a refit. Not sure when it's due to re open properly. They had a mobile burger wagon in the garden and you could still get a drink from the bar. Children's play area is good with 3 or 4 different slides.Location: 4/5
We got out of our way to go here, and have camped here a few times too. Always warm welcome, lovely food great play park for the kids. Will defo be back to try the carveryLocation: 5/5
Called in on a warm evening, sat outside in the small garden. Had a drink while looking at the menu, reasonable choice and average price. Placed order at the bar, food was cooked to order, delivered to table. It was hot and well cooked, very enjoyable would call in again. You can eat in the bar area if the weather is not good. They also have a nice looking restaurant section inside.
Lovely food. Eggs were bit over done. But overall absolutely delicious. Staff very nice Very generous portions. Good prices. Steak cooked perfectly. Chips very tasty. Free WiFi .
Been a few times here and cant fault the place. Foods good, fairly priced, decent specials board and plenty of variety for drinks. Plenty of space indoors and outdoors. Fairly big kids area outside. Good country pub
Just had the turkey roast and it was cooked to perfection, compliments to the chef. This is my favourite place to eat as I’m guaranteed great cooked food.. just ty x
The steak night seems good......but really it's not, although the actual steak was tasty.......£10 is for your steak and a potato choice......then you have TO PAY EXTRA FOR ANY OTHER ITEM, so what you would normally have with a steak anyway!! Like.....tomatoes, mushrooms, etc, disappointing!
