My wife had a pair of her favourite shoes heeled some time back and her shoes came back ruined. The buffer had not only touched the heal tip but also the shoe material. I gave them a second go with a pair of loakes. A simple re-heal. They too are ruined. The part of the heals that shouldn't be touched now have gouges in them, not one shoe but both! One new heal is uneven. It looks like a butcher has had a go at them. Definitely not cobblers. If i could post pictures i would.
