Fashion and Textile Museum

About

The Fashion and Textile Museum is the only museum in the UK solely dedicated to showcasing developments in contemporary fashion, as well as providing inspiration and training for those working in the industry.

Story

The Fashion and Textile Museum is a cutting edge centre for contemporary fashion and textiles in London. Founded by iconic British designer Zandra Rhodes in 2003, the Museum is part of Newham College London – one of Europe’s largest further education colleges. The Fashion and Textile Museum offers an exciting programme of exhibitions and displays throughout the year, alongside an array of talks, events and workshops with industry professionals. Recent exhibitions at the Museum have included ‘Liberty in Fashion’ and ‘Josef Frank Patterns – Furniture - Painting’.

Situated in the heart of fashionable Bermondsey Village, in a fantastic building designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, the FTM aims not just to display and collect items relating to fashion and textile design, but to offer inspiration to a new generation of creatives. The Museum is a hub of learning, ideas and networking for the fashion and textile industry.

The FTM Shop is committed to supporting design talent and has a great range of products from some of the best up and coming and established designers in the UK. Whether you are looking to treat yourself, find a unique gift for someone else, or perhaps you study or work in fashion, this is a great place to shop! Showcasing the work of cutting edge fashion, textile and jewellery designers, the FTM Shop stocks a large range of fashion and textile books as well as gifts, jewellery and postcards.

The FTM café is open weekdays 8am to 5.30pm and weekends 10am to 5pm, adding a fresh touch of vibrant food in an inspiring place in the heart of Bermondsey Village.

I try to attend all the exhibitons at the fashion and Textiles Museum. They are inspiring and informative. I am a professional printed textile designer, so it is important for me to support this vital resource for myself and others. I also try to attend the lectures given there by outstanding creative people in the industry.
I really like the size and layout of the museum. Always very interesting and gorgeous exhibits and friendly staff.
Incredible exhibitions that highlight the work of often lesser know but brilliant textile and fashion designers. I've loved every exhibit I've been to at this museum plus the atrium floor alone is a thing of beauty!
Nice small museum, nice exhibition and friendly staff.
Insightful exhibitions with friendly and helpful staff. A must for style and design geeks.
