Worst car buying experience ever... we identified a 3-year old Seat Ibiza FR Technology YL17XYX. All sorts of COVID-19 excuses, for the body work damage on the car which they claimed would be repaired once the body shop returned to work. We arrived to collect the car, to be told by the saleswoman that she couldn't tax the vehicle as the previous owner was disabled and so we would have to drive directly to a Post Office. We arrived at the Post Office to tax the vehicle and found that the V5C Registration Document which had been completed by the dealership was for a newer and completely different model. In addition upon driving out of the dealership the engine management warning light illuminated and so we returned the car to the dealership. We were told by the Service Manager that there was a simple fault with an actuator for the turbo which would take less than an hour to fix. I expressed my disappointment and was asked by the saleswoman to give her an opportunity to correct the fault and that we would receive a call within an hour confirming the vehicle ad been fixed. I responded that I would give her 1 opportunity to repair the vehicle within the hour promised or we would reject the vehicle. After 2 hours we had still not received a call and I was told the fault was more complicated and we would not be able to collect the vehicle until 5 pm today. Having lost all confidence in the dealership staff I told them that I would like a full and immediate refund; I no longer believed that the car was as described by the salespeople or that they would fix the body work faults later. When we arrived at the dealership we were told that it would take several days to process the refund and so I raised my voice and told them that this was unacceptable. I was then asked to leave the dealership and after my departure the staff claimed that I was being unreasonable by demanding to reject the vehicle and full and immediate payment. The staff were arrogant, rude, and intimidating to my wife, son and his girlfriend with practically the whole dealership staff crowded around them. Avoid this dealership like the plague as you cannot trust a word that they tell you, and if you try to enforce your consumer rights they will try to intimidate even if, as in this case, the vehicle that they are trying to sell you is a lemon!
After dealing with Evans Halshaw in purchasing a new SEAT on finance, I felt it was necessary to write a review in light of the atrocious reviews on this site. I feel that I can add a different perspective to that provided by the other disgruntled customers, and hopefully this will provide a bit of balance. After struggling to come to a deal on the car I wanted with my local dealership, I came across Evans Halshaw Harrogate and saw an attractive finance deal on a 2017 Ibiza. I was deeply concerned when I was told that I would have to wait just shy of 6 months for the car to arrive. However, Andrew was able to offer me a very competitive price on the exact car I wanted. He was also able to source the car from another dealership, meaning that I only had to wait a couple of weeks to receive my car. This was by no means a 5 star experience, however. Communication was very few and far between, and the date I was given for my handover was delayed a couple of times. This was down to poor communication amongst the salespeople, meaning that my account was passed from pillar to post. I found myself doing the chasing to find out where we were at regarding the processing of my finance application and the sourcing and delivery of my car, even when I was told that I would receive a phonemail or email at a specific time by the sales team, which often didn't happen. I believe that you should be made to feel like the one and only customer that matters to the dealership, but I was made to feel like a low-priority sale whom they got round to when they weren't so busy. I feel that I can give this dealership a 4* rating, simply because they were able to sell me the car I wanted at a very good price, in a short space of time. It looked like my options were becoming limited, but Evans Halshaw Harrogate were able to turn things around. If you're willing to put the poor customer service aside, then you might just find yourself getting your hands on the car you want, at the price you want.
What can I say except exceptional service, I purchased this car from another Evans Halshaw dealership close to home then cancelled as their service was so poor I didn't feel happy going ahead with the purchase. The car was then transferred to Harrogate, 190 miles away from me, to far I thought, but I really wanted it, so a phone call to Richard immediately put me at ease, I then drove up for another look and was dealt with by Matt Clarke, an example of how a salesman should be, professional in every way. Nothing was too much hassle and they even picked me up from the train station on the day of purchase. If Richard and Matt are the set standard to which they want to get the garage to, I have no doubt the future will be good for them.
I was very anxious about getting a new car, the process of trading my car in and making sure I got a good deal on a new one. Emma took care of me from the start and made it an enjoyable stress free process. Nothing was too much trouble and there was no pressure from her at all. She made sure everything was perfect for me and I drove away the same day!.. Highly recommend Emma and Richard I think was his name for everything!!
Bought a fiesta some years ago from them and it was a great little car. Sold it back to them for a good and fair price without any trade in. Unlike the dealership next door Stratstone who we were considering a part exchange with and offered more than £2,000 less for the same car just a couple of days earlier. So yes very pleased with the honesty with Evans Halshaw Harrogate. Would have been 5 stars but the exchange was unfortunately a little messy. Kept missing the relevant member of staff, partly our fault too. I would use again.
A very disappointing experience. I've bought a lot of cars over the years and this dealership ranks as the worst. I called midweek to help my heavily pregnant daughter buy a second hand car. After a test drive it took them 40 minutes to find an available salesman to deal with us Even though there were no other customers in the place. We were not offered any seating or refreshment even though there was a heatwave going on. The salesman showed no enthusiasm when dealing with us and gave the impression he was doing us a favour. Had my daughter not been so keen to buy the car I would have walked away. Once payment had been made the following day it took almost 1 hour to get through to the correct person on the phone to confirm payment has gone through. They assured me they would call back but never did. This dealership have absolutely no concept of customer service, unlike Evans Halshaw in Horsforth, where the service is great. I certainly wouldn't rush back to buy anything else from here in what appears to be a very poorly managed business.
Just had my SEAT Arona serviced here. Very good, no problems and it was completed ahead of time and at the quoted price, thank you. Footnote: when I got this car from new last year this garage failed to provide me with a price despite me visiting the dealership on 2 occasions and giving them my email address so that I could be sent some figures. In the end I got the car from another supplier. I wasn't dressed smartly, perhaps that's the reason who knows?
Amazing service! Recently bought a used Mitsubishi from them which came with a 3 month warranty. We quickly realised that there was a strange noise from the engine. Got a "car health check" from a Mitsubishi dealer and they diagnosed a £2300 repair bill! Back to Evans Halshaw and they gave us a courtesy car for a day while they did their own examination. They agreed to fix it and booked it in. They gave us another courtesy car for several days while they did the work. They kept us informed every step of the way and it seemed that nothing was too much trouble. Just got the car back from them, done, fixed, lovely. Quite frankly, I am amazed and can not fault their service team. Thank you ------------------------------------- Had to come back and update my review: There were another couple of problems with the car that weren't cured by this work we all thought it would be. So Evans Halshaw agreed to look again. They were relentless in fixing them - collecting the car from our house and delivering it back to us on two occasions as they found that one of the problems needed a Mitsubishi computer to correct, so they actually took it to a Mitsubishi dealer and got them to fix it for us. All this done under their own Warranty. Absolutely brilliant service! They don't just sell you a car and then abandon you - they have REALLY looked after us. When you buy a used car you don't expect it to be perfect... but they have done everything they could to make it as perfect as possible. Top marks: Evans Halshaw, Harrogate

Just purchased a used vehicle from this dealership and experienced exceptional service! Having previously had a terrible car buying experience at a completely different used car franchise, I was understandably a little hesitant to buy a car from a large company again. However Owen Yeadon and the other staff at the Harrogate garage immediately put me at ease and answered any questions I had. Owen was professional, patient, knowledgable about the car I expressed interest in and responded to any queries I had during the buying process quickly.
