It was my first time using a rental vehicle and my experience at the Bedford branch was flawless. Excellent service, friendly and helpful staff and an absolutely lovely rental van to drive. I would recommend Europcar to all. I would happily use their services again. Many thanks.
Avoid Would give 0 stars if I could. Used Europcar Bedford for a long term company car vehicle 6 months . They initially provided me with an MG HS PHEV. This car was OK even though it had a small range and my company had asked for a self charging hybrid. After about two months the air-conditioning stopped working. This is where the misery started. I tried calling them multiple times over the course of weeks and never did they pick up the phone. I called customer services 3 times to complain and ask how to get in touch before, low and behold, after 3 weeks someone picked up the phone. I explained the situation and they agreed to exchange the vehicle for me. Upon exchange they downgraded me to a vehicle that was, according to them, in like with the plan I was on. When asked about this at the exchange initially they lied and said the exchange was the same category as the new vehicle. After inspecting the exchange vehicle I imeddialty knew this was not the case. It was old, did not have any safety features, full of outside scratches, someone had smoked in the car, the steering wheel vibrated when I drove on the motorway, etc.. keep in mind I drive this car the entire day 5 days a week for my job . Additionally I addressed this vehicle needed to be a hybrid vehicle as this is what my company requested. They said they would source my a hybrid vehicle and I could use they exchange vehicle for a couple of days. I hesitantly agreed. After two days I had to phone them up again only to hear they would not get me a hybrid vehicle and I would have to keep this vehicle, or, go via my company and make a new booking to pay more money. At no point had they communicated the initial vehicle was an upgrade. Even though they where friendly when spoke to, they lie and are dishonest. I decided to cancel my long term contract with them and will be returning this vehicle soon and utilise another company. Additionally i logged a complaint via the Europcar account manager.
Overall online rental reservation was easy. Upon pick up, staff was helpful however I purchased additional extra for child seat which wasn't provided and still waiting for refund. The satnav wasn't working. I had to use my phone for navigation. The car provided was not what i reserved online but didn't complain because i was given a 2024 model SUV instead. Drop off was ok, the place did not have dedicated parking to park car so I had to move car everytime customers moved theirs while I waited to hand in keys. I realised much later the original car i reserved online would have been much cheaper to rent with enterprise!
There is a reason why reviews are so poor! Avoid. The booking system is very unclear. I have booked a car and I did not receive confirmation, when I went to try to collect the car I found out the place was closed and they do not have a system in place for out of hours collection it was on a Sunday. I rang the customer service only to be told I could collect the car on Monday. I do not know why they could not tell me they were closed at the time of booking! I have cancelled the booking, and I will steer away from them very carefully from now on.
AVOID! Car was fine; price was ok; service was friendly enough Rented a car for nearly a month. Returned it a day early in EXACTLY the same condition, handed the keys over and was advised that was that.... no signatures necessary. 2 TWO! weeks later I received a bill claiming for damage an alleged scuff. Wont be using again.... nor will my employer
Fantastic service at a good price, The staff were really helpful and friendly, while the whole process was very smooth from booking through collection to return of the vehicle. Excellent all round.
I booked a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 for midday pick up on 7/5/24 and return 11/5/24 before midday. On arriving at BEDFORD EUROPCAR I was informed my Corsa I'd booked specifically as it was manual / small / economical , as I was the sole user / occupant of vehicle ordered , was unavailable and that I could have a FULLY ELECTRIC MG instead . I refused this as I wanted a manual petrol and not an automatic electric which would have meant I'd have had to stop and charge it in order to have the range for the mileage I had hired the car for and possibly needed to download an app or two to pay to charge that car AND had to wait if chargers were full or broken which was not what I wanted at all. So another MG was offered , but this was a petrol plug in hybrid but as I had "upgraded " there would be an increase in price to my initial rental cost. At this point I asked to see the manager , whom after some negotiation agreed to give me the blue MG HS TROPHY at the same rental cost. The car whilst I had it in 4 days of rental was ok ... but too big , cumbersome , AUTOMATIC when I had SPECIFICALLY asked for a SMALL MANUAL car and very heavy on fuel which was not what I wanted either. On my return journey from Manchester on Fri 10/5/24 with a displayed PETROL RANGE of 30 Miles , I was 5 miles from Junction 14 on M1 southbound where I would leave M1 to go off towards Cranfield. AT 1 MILE signposted for Newport Pagnell services said MG car then went red on fuel dash and said EMPTY . In fear for my safety and other road users as the M1 on this stretch of the M1 is a SMART MOTORWAY with NO HARDSHOULDER I crawled in inside lane with a displayed range of 6 miles ONLY in the ELECTRIC HYBRID MODE to the Texaco station at Newport Pagnell services and put £25.00 in the petrol tank to make the rest of the journey home. I was very distressed as things may have not been so fortunate should I have had NIL in ELECTRIC only mode as the car may have just stopped and I'd have been stranded in a LIVE lane , unable to exit car as in a LIVE LANE and in grave danger to myself and others as a vehicular obstruction . It is an OFFENCE to knowingly use a vehicle on the motorway with no fuel or knowing you have not sufficient fuel for your journey according to the LAW and HIGHWAY CODE . In 40 years I have been driving , 10 of which were HGV , I have owned and driven MANY cars , and driven vans and Lorry , PETROL and DIESEL and NEVER EVER have I had an occasion whereby a car displaying 30 miles of PETROL range would go from that to NIL in a few miles. I returned said car on Saturday 11/5/24 around 11am and informed the lady whom had initially given me this car and dealt with the booking face to face on 7/5/24 of my brush with death and that I had been shaken by this experience and was NOT at all satisfied and HAD I HAD the CORSA I had initially ordered this would never have been an issue. All in all NOT a very pleasant RENTAL of a car , from your company , as my 1st experience hiring from you as a supposedly PRIVELEGE CLUB user . What do you consider you would think that , on so many levels things were not smooth or acceptable.. 1 CAR WANTED = UNAVAILABLE 1.2 PETROL MANUAL CORSA NOT THOUGHT OF PHONING ME PRIOR TO PICKING UP CAR TO LET ME KNOW AND DISCUSS OPTIONS BEFORE ARRIVING ? = NO 2 Car offered initially in replacement FULL ELECTRIC MG = UNACCEPTABLE . 3 THIRD CAR THAT I HAD TO ACCEPT = TOO BIG / AUTOMATIC / HYBRID = NO CHOICE . 4 CAR GIVEN ... MG HS HYBRID nearly caused an accident due to petrol going from 30 miles range to NIL in a few miles on M1 SOUTHBOUND SMART MOTORWAY = UNACCEPTABLE . I am awaiting a response from Europcar to what they deem appropriate actions moving on with a new Privilege customer. All in all a very hap hazard experience which makes me ponder very much on using your company again with all afore mentioned in mind. NOT AT ALL ACCEPTABLE . POOR SERVICE . MR S
Easy fuss free experience. Good van at a reasonable price. No problem on pickup or return.
Public Service Warning, accurate ratings for this place, don't book a van or car as they will call you just before pickup time and tell you none are available, customer service sucks big time when they decide they will answer the phone, steer clear if you don't want a massive headache, you have been warned.
Poor service at this branch, booked two vans almost a month in advance just to be told 2 days before I moved house one had been cancelled as they assumed I’d made a mistake, then to be told they didn’t have 2 vans available?! Eventually sorted it thankfully. Staff unhelpful and sometimes condescending. No one there when it came to dropping off and had to leave the vehicle that I had responsibility for in an unlocked compound where other people were parking other vehicles. Save the hassle and go to Enterprise instead!
