Electric Cinema

Story

The Electric Cinema is a movie theatre in Notting Hill, London, and is one of the oldest working cinemas in the country.HistoryThe Electric Cinema first opened in London's Portobello Road on 24 February 1910 and was one of the first buildings in Britain to be designed specifically for motion picture exhibition. It was built shortly after its namesake the Electric Cinema in Birmingham, which predates it by around two months. The cinema was soon eclipsed by the huge picture palaces that became fashionable during the 1930s but, despite being shuttered for brief periods, it has remained in almost continual use until the present day.Designed by architect Gerald Seymour Valentin in the Edwardian Baroque style, it originally opened as the Electric Cinema Theatre. During World War I an angry mob attacked the Electric, believing that its German-born manager was signalling to Zeppelin raiders from the roof, after nearby Arundel Gardens was hit by a bomb dropped from a Zeppelin.Later, in 1932, the Electric became the Imperial Playhouse cinema, though by this time the Portobello Road area had become rather run down, along with the rest of Notting Hill.

It was nice experience! There is a bar behind the seats, where you can order a food or a drink. The drink will have immediately almost, and the food they will bring to your seats. Really good sound, screen not so big but quality of image pretty good. Really like my time which I spent there: totally would recommend for a date night!
Had a fun time at the Electric! It was out first time at a high end cinema. You're greeted by friendly staff for checking in. After this, you make your way to the cinema hall and your seats. We had a bed - you can order your drinks at the bar by the back of the hall coffee, tea, alcohol. They'll bring hit food to where you're sitting. Overall a great experience.
This cinema is really with special charm! Every corner is full of vintage vibe even the restaurant beside it and the bathroom. It is really enjoyable experience to watch movies here. Highly recommended!
A very beautiful cinema and I had a nice experience here watching The Menu. Tickets are £25 for a regular arm chair and while it’s comfy & spacious, I really think you’re paying a lot of money just for the experience. There’s a bar at the back and they can also serve food like nachos & chips to your chair. I think I’d only come back for special occasions and not regularly.
I finally went to this cinema it was in my to-do list for a while. I've been before to these type of luxury cinemas in London, I'm a huge fan of the Everyman cinema. I went to the Electric on Saturday night, booking tickets last minute and surprisly I found the bed type of sitting situation. I went there 20 min before the start of the movie thinking that I could relax with a drink in a lounge area. Well.. there is nothing at the entrance see the pictures. We had to wait 20 mins there, just later I found out that there is a dinner section which apparently you can go before, but nobody told us. So the room opens and we go to the bar before sitting which is inside the room. I was a bit disappointed about the few choices, especially for vegan, and not even pop corn.. I'm sorry to say it but people serving were a bit rude, in particolar one which again didn't make me feel that luxury experience that you would expect. The bed was comfortable but if you get drinks and food it's kind of difficult because there isn't a table on the side. In conclusion if this was my first time in one of these kind of cinemas I would probably be surprised and satisfied but it's not. And compare to other brands like Everyman, which is even cheaper, you have a completely different experience. I think that Electric has the name and they know, so I felt like they don't need to put so much effort to make the customers happy. They always have tourists going there.
This is what you would call a buji Cinema, the seating is, you can order leather seats, in the foot press is a compartment we can keep your personal belongings safe during. At the back of the cinema there are leather sofas, and way down at the front for obvious reasons you have beds. You have waiter from the electric dining.
I visited this cinema two nights ago at 9PM. Despite the photo appearing quite sparse, the atmosphere was bustling and the restaurant was full! We booked to sit on the couches at the back, which was comfortable and enjoyable. I would highly recommend visiting here, and I am already looking forward to my next visit!
Went to see avatar 2. I had a cheese burger and an orange juice. Gotta say it was delicious. It's a dream. Imagine watching a movie on a huge tv, sitting on a really comfortable sofa chair. Eating a juicy burger. Can't get better
Great atmosphere. So nice, comfortable seats with a good bar. Vegetarian options as well.
Comfortable seats and great ambience. Sound needs a little adjusting but perfect
