Not bad, friendly, polite staff, does the job but from start the changing room floors are not the cleanest, most of the lockers have pad locks on yet the pool and gym was quite quiet? The pool is 20m and not that deep but clean enough and a good temperature. The jacuzzi is built into the corner or the pool and seems quite temperamental when it wants to turn on. The steam and sauna rooms are small but again a good temperature. In conclusion, it does the job but the pool and changing areas could do with a fresher modern look.
Only go for swimming with my kid, have to be out of the pool by 4:30 so that rules out week days, and weekends are always busy with hotel guests. Showers are variable from scalding to tepid. If you want a decent pool, this isn’t it. I’m sure the gym is fine though, but gyms on their own are everywhere.
I only use the swimming pool but I love dw sports. Staff are amazing, very helpful and friendly. Pool has adult only time slots. So good for exercise. There are steps down into the pool as well as ladders and there is a family/disabled changing room for those that need it. Highly recommended
There is a bizarre 'bring your own padlock' system for the lockers, but more bizarrely you can leave your padlock on the locker when it's not in use, so finding a free locker is rare. Bizarrely, the pool area shuts half an hour before the gym closes for cleaning, and the staff come and open the doors of both the sauna and steam room, and leave them open. Why is this cleaning being done in customer time? Other branches of DW do not close facilities before closing time. Bizarrely the temperature of the sauna can fluctuate 40 degrees in 10 minutes. Regularly, there are screaming children with parents seemingly inconsiderate of other members using the pool. Very bizarre. In sum - bizarre.
Signed up on Aug 17 and paid an extra £20 ish to get a bonus package 2 personal trainer sessions, guess passes and £200 discount vouchers for DW Sports which I have yet to receive Jan 18. Every time I ask I'm told there's a problem in head office. Classes are either morning between 6.30-11.30 or late afternoon/evening. No early afternoon. Gym closes early at weekends especially on a Sunday. Jacuzzi will turn itself on and off. There's no way for anyone to control it. Steam room rarely works. Worked tonight for first time in about 4 months. Pool is always on cool side. Tonight was freezing...even after an aqua aerobics class. Female shower cubicals are coloured glass..see through. Towel hook on outside of cubicle on the hinged side of door so have to open up the door fully to get your towel. Door handle is a hole in the already see through glass...at crotch level. There are no toilets in the wet changing area. The staff are nice with exception to a very moody pilates teacher..he's excellent when there's new faces. The place generally feels run down and unloved. It's connected to a hotel so i was surprised at how poor the quality of the place is.
OK place to swim but the changing room floor is often dirty. It can be busy with kids swimming lessons and often the sauna or steam room isn't working. Boucher Road dwsports is better as it's cleaner and the managers have a much better attitude towards their patrons.
Very modern gym facility with advanced machines such as a treadmill that you run with your own force the hardest thing!. The place has a Swimming pool, steam room & sauna. Good choice of classes & therapies available. The only downside is that there are kids swimming lessons in the pool, so at certain times the place is like kids central.
Last DW I was at was purpose built, and adequately sized, this one one is not as it's a repurposed gym. So when relatively busy you struggle to use equipment. Not open late enough on weekends which is when you'd think most people mould benefit from weekend access. Other than that, it's clean and equipment is maintained.
When signing up for the membership I was informed that cancelling won't be an issue if I have to move house or start a new job. Unfortunately 9 months later I received a new job offer and of course cancelling is a nightmare. They take days to respond to emails, don't accept my offer letter, and then tell me that I will need to pay for another month and submit application again with 1 month notice!
Excellent club, very friendly and welcoming. Great for getting in shape, or just working out. With all ages, shapes and sizes there, it feels very comfortable, and would recommend anyone to give it a try.
