One of the biggest shames in the Rossendale valley. A beautiful building in a beautiful location ruined by big chain after big chain taking it on and not investing. The building looks like it has not been touched since 1981 and is very shabby and outdated, paint peeling off, rotten wood and blown vinyl wallpaper. It would be nice for an independent to get this building and realise it’s potential as a well placed goldmine. We live locally and occasionally frequented for breakfast mainly which used to be a decent carvery breakfast for the price. Now under new ownership this has changed and now has the feel of a Blackpool guest house breakfast, it wasn’t the worst breakfast I have ever had but far from something I am eager to return to. Our order came wrong but as the Epos receipt didn’t list the order I had no way of pricing and the staff member I highlighted this too didn’t seem bothered nor did she offer to rectify. I won’t be returning here in the future which is shame given its location but the loss of the children’s play area is also another reason not to bring my family. I hope the current owners can turn it around and I wish them all the best but I only ever put honest reviews on places.
Nice carvery, always good value for money and generous portions.
Nipped in for tea earlier on way home. Ordered the Carvery, husband went back and upgraded his to large. The food was well cooked, very, very tasty and plentiful. Service was excellent and the staff were lovely and friendly. A very nice surprise, first time eating there and we will be back.
Good food at a great price except on Sundays where the price doubles. Even that though doesn't stop it being packed. The food is a typical carvery with some other limited options available. Drinks are reasonable and the pub as a whole has a good atmosphere. The area surrounding it is beautiful with valleys and reservoirs visible and a children's play area out the back. Good access for the disabled if you park in the upper car park.
This place kind of dips in and out of being a good place to go. I don’t think it will ever return to the standard it used to be until they replace the kids area outside. The views are wonderful, and while that set was there it was a great family place to go. We’d often take out daughter up for a carvery when we weren’t in the mood to cook. The venue and the food have gone down hill since then. I’m looking forward to it coming back
The Duke of Wellington is situated in a beautiful setting, where there are tables outside if you want to appreciate the views. The food consists of either a set menu or a carvery where you can select as much or as little food as you require. all very tasty but the beef tends to be rather tough, so i usually choose the Gammon and turkey. On quieter days the veggies tends to sit longer so can look a little dried up.but on the whole very good and terrific value for money. The staff are helpful and polite, and everything is very clean. I definitely would go back..
Last 2 times I visited - not too impressed. Even though it says serves food until 9.30pm. We went at 7.50pm midweek and they were packing the carvery away. not good. Last time I visited only on Saturday 1st July. Carvery was being served. Very busy. The Meats were all dry + lots of FAT on the beef. not much vegetables. The placed emptied all of a sudden after we had finished what we could manage - I suspect mot other people were unimpressed also. Think this will be last time I go here for a while.
I would score less if it was not for assistant manager making a point to come speak to us. the manager was rude and unhelpful and unable to spell burger. we got poor service from the out. machine took money no one was interested partners meal was not ordered correctly so are 15 mins after we did. the pub used to be family friendly and well maintained. not what it used to be. everything is always sold out or not available. long time repeat customer won't be coming back..!!! sorry to the trying staff who work for this shocking pub chain. !!
Decent carvery option, reasonable pricing for both the food & drinks, plenty of parking
Went at 6pm... £9 for a regular carvery despite only one meat available and no Yorkshire's. I had to wait twenty minutes for them to restock some of the veg after my partner has been up, so we ate at separate times. All tasted bland and won't be going back. The carver questioned me and was reluctant to serve me because he didn't believe I hadn't eaten yet... No discount was offered for the lack of options available.
