Found the details for this place on Google and decided to go on Saturday 24th of February 2018. Parking was a bit fraught and tricky, as the parking area wasn't exclusively for the restaurant, as there are a lot of residential properties in the vicinity. The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived, and there was a family of four at a table that were obviously from the country of origin of the food we were going to be having, which is usually always a good sign that the food will be good.! The waitress wanted to seat us very close to the front door! So we asked if we could have another table and reluctantly gave us one half way inside the restaurant, as it was an unusually freezing, bitterly cold day, !and it was late in the afternoon. It took a while to make our choices and when we did, the waitress did answer some of our inquiries from the menu. And to drink ---by the way there isn't an alcoholic drinks menu, ----we had a sweet lassi each, which is made from milk and plain yoghurt and then sweetened , which cost £2.99p! which for a small glass is very expensive! And there was available, a jug of lassi at a cost of £12.99p!, which at that price is extortionate! as like I mentioned it only consists of milk and plain yoghurt! .but it was very nice. And for the starter we chose the PLATTER FOR TWO PERSONS. and that was the MIXED VEGETABLE PLATTER, and on the menu states,SELECTION OF SAVOURY COCKTAIL SAMOSA, SPRING ROLL & CHEESE BITES ,which is 2 of each. Well when it arrived it was nice and hot and freshly cooked, but only really big enough for one portion! as the size of them were very small indeed! And extremely expensive at £4.99p. And I haven't seen them so small as those before! And we had a SOUTH INDIAN SPECIALITY, which as stated from the menu, an ONION DOSA , a thin crispy rice & lentil crepe topped with onions then folded over, and came with 4 measly dips which consited only about 3 or 4 teaspoons each, and that cost £3. 29.p, and hadn't that many onions on it! And we had a POORI CHANNA MASALA which is fried fluffy whole wheat bread served with spicy chickpea curry. The breads were hot and freshly fried but really very greasy indeed! And the chickpea curry was very nicely cooked and very tasty but an extremely small portion !.And we had from the MAIN COURSE - VEG SECTION a PALAK ALOO dish, which is a paste of spinach sautéed with onion, tomatoes, garlic and potatoes, which was very nice and hot and very tasty but obviously as a main course was extremely small, as was the previous dish and that was £5.49p. And we had a plain Naan bread, which is white flour bread, baked in a clay oven, which was freshly cooked but actually the smallest Naan bread we have ever had! And that was £1.49p. So it's such a shame that this was an extremely disappointing visit, and we did have a 2 hour journey each way,as we had a HOSPITAL appointment anyway. And we decided to combine that with this restaurant visit. And even when we were there, there was only another family of 4 that had come in and another of the same as we were leaving! they were like I said before from the same country of origin as the food, which is a very good sign, but it makes you wonder if this is just how it is abroad,? but I don't think so somehow.! So I can only write what I experienced .And I won't be coming back and will rather try another DOSA restaurant next time I am in Birmingham! .
Good great tasting food , one of my fav South Indian food stops, the Dosa’s are a spectacular and worth the visit, staff very friendly and welcoming, only con is they only take cash but theirs a cash machine outside.
A great traditional south Indian dishes. Dosa is must to taste!!. I really enjoyed Mysore Masala dosa!!
Great range and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly enough. Decor when dining in is a bit basic nothing special. Food quality is OK - used to be better. Takeaway is where food quality is most hit and miss, also annoyingly despite calling up and ordering and attending to collect when instructed more often than not you have a lengthy wait to collect when paid.
It used to be a good place but food has gone downhill. I used to recommend it to my clients but stopped doing it as some of them complained of tummy issues next day. Few days ago my relatives went and they complained food quality as well. Asked the owner of they have changed chef, I know they have, but his reply was a straight no..I have sympathies with the owner as I know they are working hard but mate your place is going downhill.. Don't take out stuff from freezer in front of customers at least... The skinny lady who serves needs to slow down a bit and not rush with orders. I am personally easy going but thought this review could change things as I love South Indian food.
We went for a family meal, we ordered a lot of different dishes to share and they were all reasonably priced. Lots of different dosa to choose from and all the food we had was tasty and lots of options for a veggie like me. I feel that the food came out very quickly and together we went when it was quite. I would go back again.
The owner is very friendly well mannered and cheerful. The two Indian ladies that serve their seem gloomy and depressed. The staff wear terrible cheap looking clothes...and trainers! Looks like they have just jumped out of bed to serve you. The place has a 5 star rating which really surprised me as the tables look dirty and the decor is so plain and cheap looking not to mention the tables. The cutlery and glases have finger smudges on them....so cleanliness certainly is not a priority. The food reasonably nice tasting and I must say the portion sizes for the sambar are tiny as are the cups of tea.....really trying to economiz on the food just like the decor. Finally, bring cash if you come here as they don't have card payment facility. Best wishes Neil
The restaurant has changed, the owner and employees have become more successful now and moved on. The new restaurant is Vaibhavan. The food is excellent- wide variety for both meat eaters and vegetarians and the waiters are friendly. Although, the owner of the shop tried increasing our cost prices intentionally- he knew that he'd increased the price but hoped he'd get away with it.
Went there on a Saturday evening after friends suggested this restaurant for their delicious dosas. But was not in a mood to eat dosas that day and asked the waiter to suggest their best and popular dishes. The thin, skinny waiter suggested us to go for Briyani's and chicken chettinad. so we went for briyani's,chicken chettinad, naan, palak paneer etc. The food came piping hot in a reasonable time. would definitely go here again for their delicious food and excellent customer service. The only negative thing i could think of this place was not so comfy furnitures as we had to change few of the chairs we sat due to shaky chair handles otherwise all good and definitely suggest this place for the authentic south indian food :
As a south indian we are starving for our authentic food through out Midlands and here we got awesome food with good service , quality and quantity too. 100 % value for money . owner and waitress attitude is polite and we are satisfied with their service. I will strongly recommend this restaurant to all my friends .
