Incompetent staff and university. Started in 2017 but I left the course in 2019 for endless reasons. I failed the first year due to a broken hand later in the year, consequently missing an exam, and due to the teacher making a heated atmosphere for me so ended up scraping by. She amplified any deception in which she tried to defame my character and suggested that I just leave the course few weeks from the get-go. Almost like preying on any vulnerabilities that I had or was going through, and made me feel unwelcome into the classroom. No one from that point gave me a chance to be in a team with them that year and the atmosphere crossed over into other classrooms. The course was team based graded so it was completely unfair behaviour. The verbal abuse was totally unprofessional too, constantly being spoken down to but only by second year I seen teachers selecting new targets, than myself for a change, almost like a blue print of an overcrowded first years university. Get too many on student finance and fail off the ones that they dislike. This practice can only work for so long before grading of the UNI goes down... It is a very 'clicky' university and if you weren't in with the rest, you had to be prepared to lose. I seen people get up and say 'I'm not going to be spoken to like this' to never return ever again... I was contracted in their student halls so it wasn't an option to just leave immediately. But in hindsight I'd never stepped foot on this campusnnTeam selection wasn't even an automated process and the teacher of problem was using deception about me because I was called up on things by other staff that didn't seem relevant to my personality. Even in a lecture about my emails, all I asked was for a team. But I kept my calm. I was mugged few meters off campus during the year with a knife at the bridge on a sunny day at 4pm, and ended up with hole in my face from the attackers. Zero support I had throughout the year and no extensions even. Told it was my fault even by some staff. You mean the canal connected to your campus? Even my motorbike was stolen from the Bede hall's car-park with a saw blade as my lock was cut in half. Couldn't have been living in a worst area. But I know for sure I wasn't the only student attacked as you always heard of the odd story on Bede park. Just a complete social divide in the community with students. Even when I left my first year after cleaning the entire hall block, the head of the halls tried to steal my deposit by swapping the chair in my bedroom, claiming that I ripped it up with a knife. Luckily, I had photo evidence to show I cleaned the whole place in detail. It's beyond belief they even tried to pull that one out the bag. The entire thing at this uni ruined my chances and put me through unnecessary boundless stress. Even asking fair questions I was spoken down to by uni staff. I ended up repeating the pointless first year due to one exam I missed, having to pay for a new year entirely. I was told they could not add it up the total score and wouldn't be able to repeat the exam. In my repeated year, the staff were still problematic with team setup for me. People were leaving first years too in crazy numbers so would lose out on person or two if I ever got one. Even had an issue with a students lying about the work ownership so got awarded zero due to lies with the problematic teacher. I was told by the teacher of problem the grading boundaries have also changed so lowered my mark for the rest of the assignments that year. Which made no sense, because my work in the new year was million times better. I managed to somehow complete my retake year passing the exams. It's such a bad environment that people will do anything to one up someone at this uni. I was so happy that I discharged myself going on to the next year. Still without a proper team I hung it up. And thanks for my first years certificate. Here is your acknowledgement.
Really bad very very bad experience.nnBefore coming from india i have paid my 75% of the fees. After coming to UK attended two months to the university, after two months because of some my family issues i was not able to pay my fees on time so asked an extension of 2 months from the university but they were not able to provide me even a single day extension they blocked my student account and was only saying we cannot do anything just pay the fees, it was like you do or die but we want money. I requested them many times but they didn't provide me an extension. Waste university, they cannot understand the conditions of the student all they need is only money.
I had an absolute abysmal experience at this university. The staff lack in engaging with pupils within the classroom setting. They provide awful feedback which does not help any grade advancements even though this is what feedback should be for. This university is awful for supporting students wellbeing as I had a death within the family half way through my second year and got no support whatsoever in regard to this. This university likes to allow students in but will not support them throughout the degree they have worked hard for. They are quick to blame the student when the student has had an academic failure and will not help the student to pass the year but would rather them do the whole year over again just for the money. Avoid this university at all costs.
I've got an offer for this October intake. But these negative reviews made me feel think twice to apply. So I may have to go for an another option.
The opportunity to complete my master's degree here makes me happy. Despite all the barriers, international students can find answers to all of their questions and concerns regarding successfully finishing the course. In addition to a great library experience, there is easy access to academic support and many more opportunities.
