This school lives on because of its former glory. Never was my first choice of school. Some teachers are nice, but the overall vision of this 'religious' school is that if you are rich, your kid will be fine. It seems that they are only helping athletes and wannabe TOWIE celebrities reach their goals, while the poorer kids are left behind. They say that the school struggles with money but even the Deputy Headteacher has a Personal Assistant! The food they serve is of poor quality and overpriced, and the queuing takes more than half an hour. The school continues sending emails about pupils not wearing their uniform correctly, trousers too low, skirt too short, socks over tights, painted nails, piercings, etc. And then they want kids to express their individuality, oh the irony! Pupils are not allowed to use their phones not even at break times and if they get caught, their phone will be confiscated for a week , and not even allowed to take it home! Is this democracy? I don't think so!
On June 2011, I was there ! as a leader for a team came from Ministry of Education-Iraq to visit the school and learn more about the educational system and environment in UK so we can share the best practises and experience among us. It was the most wounderful activity during my trip to London and will keep wishing to be there any time soon to meet the kind and great people starting from the Head Teacher Mr. Chris to the students and the admin people. I still keep the Memory Stick that the IT guy gave it to me when I asked for help to free more space on my SD card so I can take more pictures by my cam. They all are v.good people and I like this school too much. Davenant; Good Luck for ever.
I was a pupil at Davenant in 1960 - 1966 the first five years being at the school's original site in Whitechapel. This was the start of 46 years commuting from my original home in Ilford thereafter to various places of work in The City. I'm sure things are very different today but I have fond memories of the school, it's a shame that I have lost touch with all my contemporaries - I did attend an Old Boy's evening a couple of decades ago but recognised no one.
