Rather old-fashioned little museum with keen volunteer guides. Displays are basic technologically but informative, and the history described is wonderful and fascinating. No public lavatory or cafe, but Crystal Palace town is three minutes walk away.
Very interesting place. Went on the guided tour around the ruins of the crystal palace which last 1hr 45 mins. Well worth doing. It cost £5 . The museum is free and open the first Sunday of the month . April till October.
Could know the detailed history of Crystal Palace from the photos, text and video in the museum
I would like to give a massive shout out for this magnificent museum. Though it a has limited number of exhibits they still tell an extremely fascinating story of one of Britain's lost treasures and this is wonderfully supplemented by the extremely knowledgeable and personable guide who gave me an indepth background to the Crystal Palace. I would heartily recommend a visit to this unappreciated gem of a museum, Oi UK government give this place the funding it deserves!!
I found the museum fascinating. The film of the 1936 fire was particularly interesting as well as the coverage of the varied activities associated with the Palace in Sydenham. I then walked round the site which always makes an impression. The wire fencing may be necessary but is unsightly. Some information boards would be an asset.
Tiny, volunteer run museum that nevertheless delivers. I had researched Crystal Palace quite a bit online before I visited and yet I learned so much more at this museum. Don't expect a tremendous selection of artefacts but the photographs, mementos, and information supplied are enough on their own. They also run guided tours of the Crystal Palace park for £5 per person, which offers a tremendous look into the history of the place.
Oh its so full of information! And artefacts and pictures, lithographs and knick knacks, technical drawings, what did you want to know about the erstwhile Crystal Palace , please find out here !
Cosy little Museum. Open only on Sundays. Visiting it's totally worthy if you're passionate about Crystal Palace history. Lots of information panels and amazing model. You'll discover many hidden and forgotten details
Interesting small museum, very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
A decent small museum with lots of history about Crystal Palace. It appears to be run a small group of friendly helpful volunteers who like the idea of keeping the history of the place alive. Free to get in and well worth a visit if in the area. Lots of stands and photos that both give an idea of the garndure of the building itself and some of the things that it was used for. Even more interesting for me were the few pictures that they had of the fire and the destruction of such an iconic place. Brilliantly done for such a small building. Lots of interest to see. Note that there appear to be no guest toilets on site.
