Although I’m not the biggest fan of these type of paintings, I did enjoy walking around in the first public arts gallery in the UK. Very cozy inside and the staff was really nice. The sculptures outside are nice to walk by as well!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A small beautifully formed gallery that continues to deliver brilliant exhibitions that sit alongside the main galleries. The current main collection has some blockbusters missing and lovely Dutch paintings left in dark corners so look hard! I’m looking forward to the new garden opening next year and parking is free along Gallery Road so you can walk into the village after. The shop is excellent especially books, and don’t forget the ubiquitous cafe too.
Smart little gallery with a good permanent collection, always a joy to visit and look at the Rembrandt’s paintings. A beautiful Sculpture of Yinka Shonibare on the park. Went to the Yoshida exhibition today, with great collection. A bit noisy with family day, with some parents just left their children in the exhibition and having a noisy chat among themselves. Good coffee at the cafe, helpful waitresses. Nice little bookshops. Tip - great place to hv a picnic on the park in the summer.
Came for a third time from central London. This time I came to see the “Yoshida: Three generations of Japanese printmaking” exhibition and it didn’t disappoint! Beath-taking and inspiring. The paintings shown are accompanied by really good description of the inspiration of the artists, showing the Japanese techniques and landscapes but also a lot of travel inspirations that got to be tangible. Plus in each room you had a family tree to give you context. I loved how the exhibition started by connecting Yoshida Hiroshi to Dulwich Picture Gallery as he visited and signed the visit book in May 1900 and by the end of the exhibition you get to see the grand-daughter’s work. It’s a beautiful exhibition and the techniques employed by the different members of the family are unique! Would come to see it a second time definitely. Looking forward to the next exhibitions of Dulwich Picture Gallery!
This was my second visit to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and on both occasions I’ve been very impressed with the exhibitions. Most recently I went to see the Yoshida Collection, which was wonderful. Each print was accompanied by a detailed description - which was well lit and easy to read. I can imagine during busier times it would be difficult to absorb the information provided, but I believe you can also download a free audio guide prior to visiting the gallery. There are a few lockers free of charge available for storing larger bags. Bathrooms are in the adjacent building, which also houses the café. I shall look out for future exhibitions and will definitely return soon
Dulwich Picture Gallery is a joy. A small but wonderful place that holds so many masterpieces. I love popping in for a short visit to admire my ever-changing favourites. Membership is very reasonable. This evening I attended the private view of Yoshida and my mind was blown! I will have to go back to view it again and try to understand the amazing Japanese art of printmaking.
Really enjoyable visit to the DPG this morning to see Soulscapes. It closes on 2 June, so don't delay. So glad I went! Some truly wonderful pieces, conceptually and technically. My favourite was Phoebe Boswell's video installation. The whole exhibition really was a nature immersion. And I bagged a catalogue, affordable and discounted. Very good cafe too.
Lovely gallery with some amazing paintings on display from Gainsborough, Turner, Rembrandt and the exhibition of Berthe Morisot. The gift shop is great too appealing to both young and old. It has toilet facilities for the weary traveller and a good cafe.
First visit and absolutely worth it. Went to see the Soulscapes exhibition and took in some of the old masters too. A great gallery, well laid out and with good facilities in the heart of vibrant West Dulwich convenient for restraunts, cafés and pubs.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The Soulscapes exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery provides a captivating artistic experience, delving into various dimensions of creativity. However, the ticket price of £17.50 appears disproportionately high for the relatively small scale of the exhibition. Despite this, the visual and emotional journey offered is worthwhile for avid art enthusiasts.
