Not wanting to blow a small fortune on mediocre food from the motorway services I had a search for local pubs and came across the Crown & Anchor and I’m glad I did. Wonderful food at a fraction of the price to the above alternative and a cosy pub with real ale on tap. What’s not to like!

Me and my girlfriend and my 3month old baby boy had sunday dinner here and we found the staff more than helpful. We both had starter main course and dessert for £15 and it was presented excellently and we felt more than welcome just got busy with the locals after 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday would definitely go back.

Called in for a drink only on Sunday lunchtime. Wasn't overly impressed as they seemed understaffed at the bar which took a full two minutes to serve me with no one else waiting whilst the barmaid disappeared after coming off the phone, however in fairness she apologised upon her return. Was then told they were fully booked for food [ despite me not asking for a table or indeed food] .A table by the window was easy to find and the real ale I had was fine as was my wife's bottled fruit cider, however upon finishing our drinks and taking the glasses back to the bar I said a polite thank you only to be given a stern glare as we left with no acknowledgement whatsoever for my custom. Not sure I will return in a hurry.Sad as it isn't really a bad pub.

Magnificent bartender. Isn't that what makes any place a proper pub?
