Needed somewhere quick and easy for something to eat. Knew I could find something I would like and my fussy hubby will find something too. Settled for a small curry and a glass of wine. Excellent size of meal. The lady on the next table had ordered a full size one and I knew it was too big for a light lunch for me, so was great to have smaller meal sized options. Meal arrived relatively quick although I noticed that the table beside me ordered after is but received their meals first, however was only a few minutes. Value for money couldn't be beaten.
We didn't use the hotel. We just went for food and drink. This is a really busy pub, and we went twice over a weekend. The food took a long time to arrive on both occasions, but on the second trip, my partner had to go and find the drinks too, which were still on the bar. On Sunday morning, there were only 2 staff on the bar area. One serving and the other clearing tables. One of the coffee machines wasn't working and there wasn't any milk other than oat for hot drinks. I could have asked but worried that it would have taken too long. When I got back to my breakfast, it had gone cold.nnBut we love this place and will go back.
In the area for the weekend and a spoons is always a good choice for a larger group.nWe were able to find a table and after asking for the table to be cleaned as I think the horse race goers had recently left we ordered food at the bar as the app wasn't working but fast, friendly staff took the order and all food arrived hot and correct.nnWe went back for breakfast on the Sunday morning, all spotlessly clean and the app worked fine and all got and fresh lovely food and even tho we did have a sausage missing this was quickly sorted. After issues with other establishments in the area over the weekend, good old spoons is never going to be gourmet cuisine but this one in particular was a great place to stop
Booked this location as it said it had a lift. However, unless you are on the second floor and above it is no good for disabled people. Due to a disability room unavailable we had to climb stairs. The room was spacious and bathroom large. Bed was very hard but again very large. Food typical Wetherspoon. No complaints about the food. Wouldn't stay again though unless a disabled room was available.
The room needed refurbishing. The air conditioning for the kitchen ran all night. The staff emptied bottles into the skip at 12 at night. The shower was nearly unusable. The shower mat was remove for the second night. The breakfast was very poor. All in all it was not a good experience and will not stay in another Wetherspoon ever again if they think the standard of our room was acceptable at £185 for 2 nights. We recently stayed in a Premier Inn in Wolverhampton at £99 for 2 nights. A good standard.
