Bad publicity lately, but the reason needs to be put out there. My understanding is that this is not as it seems. So ignore it and give it a try. New management with a new menu and daily specials/events. Give it a go! If we don't use it...we'll lose it! Another pub condemned to be flats, or something else? UPDATE: It has been closed down for the best part of 3 weeks for a refurb of the whole place including the kitchens. New management, including a fantastic local chef. Really nice, looking and food was great (although we only called for a sandwich at dinner time). Nice beer garden to the rear. No dogs allowed inside 😕. Menu was impressive, prices not the cheapest, but certainly not the dearest around. Some good daily offers. Try it and ignore the previous bad press!

We engaged the Cross Scythes to hold the wake after my father in law's funeral at Hutcliffe Wood. They did a terrific job. They arranged a nice menu for us at a reasonable price, our guests were in a quiet area to themselves and the food was great. The gentleman who I spoke to about arrangements was very reassuring about what would happen if we had more people than expected. If anyone is considering them for a similar event, I can strongly recommend them. Our guests were particularly impressed with the tiny fish and chips.

Nice atmosphere. Had to sit outside due to so much alcohol inside, but they were accommodating with food and provided good veggie option.

Recently and unfortunately they have gone down hill. Food is ok but nothing to rave about. Pub is good for families and has loads of space and outside play area.

I've been three times now. The service is excellent and the food is very good. Great fish and chips, the pie was delicious and the Sunday roast was very good. There's usually something slightly interesting to the meals too that make them taste better than expected. We had a few issues with the roast but the staff sorted it straight away. Highly recommended for very good, reliable pub food.
