Chicken cooked rotisserie style over our open fire-pit. Simple food done well.

Story

COOP Chicken House is located just a minutes walk from Newcastle's Central Station on Collingwood Street, dead opposite Revolution Vodka Bar and across the way from some of the town's most popular bars and clubs.

We're all about simple food done well with a laid-back & non-fussy approach. Think tables full to bursting with wood-fired chicken, charred corn, sweet potato fries and homemade slaw washed down with a pint or two of the local brew.

Whether you are looking to hire the whole venue (capacity 50), a large family booking, a table for two or a lone-wolf business type you'll be met with a warm welcome and some of the finest chicken around at COOP Chicken House.

Not bad chicken, I think perhaps they style of service is just not for me (put all the chicken on the table). I do stress it's my opinion and other people may like it. However saying that the sauces are generally quality and really nice. They do some good lunch packages for a reasonable price, I guess I just prefer to buy their sauce than the whole package.

Informal, quick good value chicken dinner. Good food. Great chicken. Crispy skin. Good sides. Big range of sauces. Decent beer selection. Very pleasant staff.

In a word, overpriced. £13.50 bought me half a small spit roasted chicken with a side of red cabbage slaw. The chicken was well roasted with salt pepper and a lemon wedge. The slaw was bland. Half or more of the menu is dedicated to various sauces, you may purchase separately by the bottle, to put on your chicken, for an additional£4.20 to £7.00. Basically, it is a retail shop for bottled hot sauces. With rather costly chicken to put it on. Given a large whole chicken can be purchased, roasted at Costco for £4, I am wondering why the place is popular. No table cloth or linen service. The only condiments were a bottle of ketchup, a bottle of an unidentified bbq sauce and a bottle of crystal pepper sauce. I made due. No water refill. Not bad, just overvalued in comparison to what Newcastle has to offer.

Absolutely loved this place. Genuinely the best chicken I have ever tasted. Shame it isn't a franchise as I believe it could take over the UK the same way Nandos did.
