Congleton Park

About

Our Park has beautiful gardens and flower beds, a great children's play area, large field for ball games and events, a bandstand and Park Wood paths.

Story

Following a movement to create public parks in the nineteenth century, in 1856 the Town Council bought twelve acres of land between Town Wood and the river Dane with the object of creating an open space in which to lay out a public park. A park committee was appointed but seemingly they needed reassurance about the site. One advisor to whom they applied was James Bateman who had developed a series of impressive gardens at Biddulph Grange. The Congleton and Macclesfield Mercury reported on 27 October 1860:

'We understand that James Bateman Esq. The Grange, has in the company with other members of the Park Committee declared the spot admirably suited to the purpose contemplated (A Public Park)'

Stunning Victorian park maintained to an incredibly high standard by Cheshire East Council.nnSurrounded on 2 sides by the River Dane complete with an impressive weir at one end.nnIncludes loads of paths to walk, many floral displays and good modern children's playground.
This park is beautifully maintained it has a cafe dogs allowed, a playground, bowling green rugby field and a wooded area under tree canopy’s with lots of squirrels. No litter and volunteers working on the flower beds. Public toilets no litter. Not a busy place parking available across the river bridge. Good access for those with pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Beautiful park. Lots of areas for picnics. Very clean + quiet. Only downside is toilets locking at half 3
The park is a little gem! There are many people maintaining the flowers and the wildlife in the park and it's one of my family's favourite spots. It's small but offers so much. The flower lovers will be absolutely in love with it, there is a little paths into the woods for walking and exploring, there is a huge playground for the children and even a tea room where you can have hot or cold beverage and and some food. It definitely worth visiting
What a credit this park is to the people of Congleton, the volunteers do a wonderful job in keeping it looking immaculate with flowers & with neat & tidy borders.nThere is something for everyone at the park to enjoy, children have a play area which is well equipped.nThere is also food & drinks served in the PavilionnWill definitely go back
