Congleton Park

About

Our Park has beautiful gardens and flower beds, a great children's play area, large field for ball games and events, a bandstand and Park Wood paths.

Story

Following a movement to create public parks in the nineteenth century, in 1856 the Town Council bought twelve acres of land between Town Wood and the river Dane with the object of creating an open space in which to lay out a public park. A park committee was appointed but seemingly they needed reassurance about the site. One advisor to whom they applied was James Bateman who had developed a series of impressive gardens at Biddulph Grange. The Congleton and Macclesfield Mercury reported on 27 October 1860:

'We understand that James Bateman Esq. The Grange, has in the company with other members of the Park Committee declared the spot admirably suited to the purpose contemplated (A Public Park)'

This park is beautifully maintained it has a cafe dogs allowed, a playground, bowling green rugby field and a wooded area under tree canopy’s with lots of squirrels. No litter and volunteers working on the flower beds. Public toilets no litter. Not a busy place parking available across the river bridge. Good access for those with pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Lovely well kept park. Dogs on leads in the formal area but off lead elsewhere. Open space and woodland areas. Cafe is open most days, small free car park
Beautiful park. Lots of areas for picnics. Very clean + quiet. Only downside is toilets locking at half 3
Good for jogging ,walking , lots of beautiful flowers when it starts to get warm as the volunteers look after the big garden areas on the park ,the children's park is good and clean ,my grandson loves it here , the cafe is lovely to ,especially when it is warm because you can sitt outside,,the only downside is that dog owners NOT all of them ,sometimes don't pick the dog mess up ,which is sad as it spoils the day watching out where ur walking especially with a toddler is not a pleasant experience if step in dog mess
On this occasion I was playing a bowls match on the park green. The park looks like a good place to have good family times. . As plenty of open space and a nice play area for the kids.
