This is a great place. The animals here are treated with respect, unlike London Zoo where they are tested on among other things, and the location this zoo is based in is itself lovely. Just off the border of Colchester where big open fields start making an appearance, the zoo has plenty of space to house a very big variety of animals. Once inside the zoo, it doesn't even feel like you're in England anymore. We arrived at the zoo at around 11am and spent literally all the time we could in the zoo until closing time which was around 6pm just walking about and enjoying ourselves. We didn't even keep track of time that much and we managed to see pretty much everything in that one day. The zoo does have a number of stores available to buy food and drinks from, all scattered around so nothing is too far from each other. The staff seemed pretty friendly and welcoming and we saw some enter the animal dens, feeding the animals and cleaning the dens. They didn't seem like they were doing any harm to them whatsoever because none of the animals were aggressive towards them as they entered. They just casually gathered around and waited for their food. It was a really great time in there. I could write on for another half an hour and not be finished :D TL;DR - I highly recommend going here if you're looking for a day out either by yourself, with a special someone or with your family. There's plenty to see and you can even feed a few of the animals yourself! It's even better on a hot day ;)

The zoo has a good number of different species. The animals looked healthy and cared for. The zoo is easy to get to and well sign posted. Once inside you are supplied with a map plus you have signs all over and lines to follow on the floor. Their are many eateries inside so lots of opportunities to sit and have a bite to eat. They have multiple encounters throughout the day to see animals being fed etc. I've been to better zoos but it was still pretty good and a nice day was had.

It was an amazing day out with my 5 year old daughter. We loved the animals, especially the giraffes, the lions and the rhinos. And the Easter bunny hunt was quite fun! We got annual passes for all of us as it's more value for your money and we are more likely to visit more than 2 times a year. We can't wait to go back again!

Great if you're going by car not so much fun if you use the bus to get there.. Walking into the zoo via the drawn yellow safety line on the right hand side can be slightly hazardous sometimes, and if you are disabled and wheelchair user it can be even more hazardous.. It is very uneven so is covered in puddles as its literally on the road, drivers have to drive very close to you, and you get so Soaked.. Also, it narrows a couple of times in different places which makes it impossible to navigate it safely in a wheelchair.. I should imagine that pushchair users have a similar problem if they have another young child holding the side.. The zoo itself is GREAT.. Very good for whole day out, loads of eating places and toilets.. Very well looked after and lots to see and do.. Its actually better value than a gym pass for the year.. A few hills.. But there is an easier section for people not able to walk too much.. Still good value if you get a yearly pass and use it several times..

Amazing place to visit. I love it there. I have no bad words to say. Obviously the animals are incredible. You can feed the elephants and giraffes. You can get up close to a lot of the animals there. The staff are friendly. It's clean and tidy. The food is a really really nice and reasonably priced.
