Brilliant experience for my children and me. We were enthralled by the sheer volume of work that has gone into excavating and rebuilding an incredibly important historic military Fort. It is well maintained and cared for. My sons couldn't get enough of the hand guns, rifles, stencil guns. Anti aircraft guns. Cannons and The Gilbert Gun. (monster).
Seeing feeling smelling and touching history impacts on young people far more than a classroom. Great experience.

Lovely place to go as a family and learn about Harwich as a town and what soldiers went through during the second world war. Makes you appreciate what you've got now. Even have a little book store I bought a few books from here it's really good.

What an underrated town. Somewhere so full of history, so under-invested, but so deserving of rejuvenation, should be seen with open eyes so you can see it for what a historic town it is - and should be!

Great place to visit.  Especially if, like me, you have a history obsessed teenage son!  Incredibly reasonable entrance fee and friendly knowledgeable staff.  Make sure you watch the slide show which plays in one of the rooms.  It's amazing how it's been so beautifully restored.
