I met family here on a chilly day. There's lots of parking we paid £7 for 5 hours. We stopped off for a breakfast roll and coffee first. Everything was freshly cooked, and the coffee was nice, too. The grandchildren had hot dogs and most of the chips £30.We walked past the splash pool, the Mossaic, and the sand pit and back along the waterfront. The ship play area was a hit with the boys, and then it was off to the zoo. They'll get you in the cheapest way. 3 adults, 2 little ones £43. There are gift bags too for £8.95. A bit of feed, sweets a toy, sounds pricey, but the kids got so much out of it. They loved the meet and greet. Took ages to get them out of the reptile house, and we must have walked around for a couple of hours. I have to admit my first impression of the zoo wasn't much, but the animals are well looked after, and the kids volunteer helping to clean and feed them. It's a family run concern, and donations are very welcome. On your way out, there's a gift shop. Look right, and you'll see the biggest ever Python. A slow walk back to the car, through the skate park. We were amazed at some of the kids' talent. Lots of banter between them, but there seems to be some kind of etiquette on the ramps. The 5 hours went so quickly. It was busy when we went. There were plenty of dog walkers, too. I didn't see too many picnic tables, but there's plenty of grass to sit on. The cost mounts up for a family day out like anywhere. But what a space!
Took our grandchildren to see the animals but we're very disappointed. Very expensive for what there is to see. Some areas were closed off and only those paying extra for a guided tour get to see all the animals. Pathways were very boggy and straw put down to soak up dampness made it very difficult to get a pushchair or wheelchair through it. Wear Wellington boots as you will get muddy. Some areas we couldn't get to as was too boggy. Am sure staff are keeping the animals safe and happy but do wonder if the small zoo area should have less animals so making it easier for paying public to get round. With the high cost, surely a concrete/tarmac pathway should be a priority.
We visited on a spur of the moment day out, and had the best time! The zoo is small and very friendly. We had the pleasure of meeting Sam and Megan, who were so friendly, knowledgable and clearly care a lot about the animals and the zoo. We visited on a quiet day, and the staff were more than happy to spend time with us one to one to tell us all about the animals, even letting us feed, hold and stroke some of them. Amazing! Will definitely recommend to family and friends.
Definitely will visit again. We thought it will be 20 min walk around but we ended up spending over 2 hrs there. Absolutely friendly staff very knowledgeable and interactive with families. Animal handling was best ever. We did not feel rushed. We hold snake, tarantulas and geckos. We get to stroke rabbits, guinea pig and skunk. We feed meerkats and alpacas and goats. We loved it!
Lovely zoo, knowledgeable, polite, helpful and cheerful staff. The animal encounters were great, we even touched and held a tarantula. Accessibility for wheelchairs is an issue, staff did go out of their way to help but they could do with some proper paths to help wheelchair users.
