Wonderful restaurant serving well-presented and delicious Scottish cuisine. We really enjoyed the weekday lunch special which includes an appetizer and a main course. We also added the haggis appetizer. The other appetizers were the apple & root vegetable puree soup, fish soup, mussels. Our mains were the pressed lamb, trout and fried haddock. All the dishes were excellently balanced with delicious sides that complemented the main ingredient. The restaurant itself is elegant with rustic touches. Service was very good: friendly and attentive with good attention to detail in small things such as the place setting. We really enjoyed everything and felt the meal is very good value. Very highly recommended!
For our first time in Glasgow, we wanted to try haggis and we stumbled upon City Merchant and there was no regret. The time we visited offered the Pre-theatre menu, which provided a decent price for 2 courses. The restaurant served high quality food, with excellent dishes that we ordered being the blue cheese tart and mussels of the moment for our starter and the salmon and haddock for the main. All in all, the atmosphere was delightful, the staff were friendly and we will definitely come back when we visit Glasgow again!
Good seafood, nice/fun atmosphere and good service. I started with the Cullen skink soup yummy, then had the salmon excellent!. My husband had the pre-fixe lunch of mussels delicious and large portion then the fish & chips not great, the fish was not very flavorful and the breading was not crispy.
I had a chef vegetarian special and other guests had fish courses. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and accommodating. A lovely evening in this authentic Scottish restaurant!
Fabulous food .... surprisingly good acoustics ... and very friendly staff.
Great area to shop, stay over and eat and drink, spoilt for choice
Great Turkish food, big portions
We went to this restaurant to celebrate our Valentine’s Day. The food itself was to a some extent ok but not a good one. The Kebab was burnt and it was cold when it was served. Not a good service. Moreover, It was was very expensive and we ended up getting stomachache over the night after that meal. All in all, not recommended as it wasn’t a good meal, very costly and most importantly the sanitary condition of the food was not good as we get unwell.
Food was good, and came out quickly. It was a weeknight though, and might have been due to the emptiness of the place. Our host, the owner, is also fluent in Italian, so if you know a few phrases...try them out and you might get a bit better service. Drink selection is very limited though. Only a few beer on tap and a single cider. No need to go for the fixed menu as the portions are big enough on the regular menu to suffice.
Impromptu dinner before going back to work the next day, and was very pleasantly surprised. Starters, Mussels were lovely and fresh tasting, the Chicken and Lentil terrine was meaty and tasty, with just enough for a starter. Mains, These were equally good, the Pheasant was a nice change to the usual Chicken or Duck you see on menus and the Sausages and Mustard Mash was excellent. All in all thoroughly enjoyable, would recommend to anyone :
