Stopped by here for a snack, tea, and something sweet. I had a nice experience. It's a spacious place with a good selection of savory and sweet things to have with something warm tea / coffee.
Not great service to start with when ordering the cake, the staff member wasn't the most pleasant, was rushed and it felt like she was doing me a favour by taking the order. The cake itself tasted good, was fresh and was priced well. The writing on the other hand looks like it's been done by a 4 year old. I didn't realise that it was a thing to mix upper and lower case letters. It cost an extra £3.50 to have the writing so there was no point in complaining. Just thought I'd let others see what mess to expect. Pretty shabby to say the least.
Cakes and pastries look lovely but the savory roll I got was a bit stale, and apple strudel was pretty basic and didn't feel like it was cooked enough. Service and atmosphere could've been friendlier. A bit of a disappointing visit won't be visiting again sadly.
Visited this afternoon for a cup of tea and cake with a friend. Tea and cakes were very good, the service was extremely poor. We had to ask twice to have our outside table wiped down. The staff member was very grumpy, and bored. We asked about their selection of cakes, the staff member was indifferent and didn't show any interest in explaining the cake flavours to us. Upon payment, after we knew about the 50p charge we wished to avoid the 50p card charge for purchases under £10, so we then wanted to pay in cash - this was met with 'I will now have to cancel this transaction and explain to my boss'. She made rude looks to her colleague. Won't be visiting again. Shame because the location and decor is nice. Staff leaves much to be desired, completely lets this place down.
Is a good place but this review is related to the birthday cakes. They used to be good but thisbyear I noticed a tremendous decrease in quality. I.e. today bough a black forest and it had nothing to do with black forest when we tried it, no dark chocolate, no cherries at all. I won't go back there again for cakes. Its a shame as it was our place for birthday cakes.
Ok service definitely could have been friendlier. very disappointed with the food which tasted unseasoned. My friend ordered an omelette which arrived on a huge plate with no salad or anything. Definitely missing the loving touch and care towards the food they serve.
The food is good but the service is horrid, impatient and rude. If you want to have a good time, I highly recommend not to go there. Instead, Coffee Bank is just across the street and is superior in any way. Important addition: Since you requested a specific statement, here it is: I first went to Chorak for 2 or 3 times, and one waitress the older one of the bunch ignored me. I assumed that it's because I had only ordered tea instead of something more substantial - but even so, it still doesn't justify that behavior. When I went there again, I asked for an omelette and the waitress said she has no time for me. There was no one there. Clients went by and left, 15 minutes passed, and she refused to take my order, calling me rude when I asked why. I was literally sitting there, confused. When she was finally willing to elaborate, she said that *the chef had told her not to take my order*. Simply that. I asked to speak with him, and he too said that he has no time for me. Before leaving, I told them that it's unacceptable and I will report it. Here I am. After talking about it with several other locals, they have all confirmed that Chorak are highly rude and unprofessional. It's all about good service - a term that is foreign to Chorak, unfortunately.
I went here with my wife before and today I brought my family for a quick lunch. The coffee is good and the cakes tastes amazing! Also got some delicious egg royale! Nice clean place, reasonably priced.
They have very poorly trained waitresses on a Sunday. The two waitresses left the till unmanned and sat on the table next to me to have a chat. There were then no staff to approach. They then got called over by the chef who clearly told them to get on with their job. One of the waitresses shortly came over to me whilst I was eating, and asked if I could come over to the till and pretend to order something for two minutes. When I asked why, she said it was because her boss had asked her to wash the dishes and that she didn’t want to, so wanted to pretend that she was taking an order! What?! Clearly neither of the two waitresses have any value for customer experience. Sad because food was OK, but having poor quality staff means that customers like myself won’t return.
I was searching for a cake at the last minute for my kid's bday during January 2022. I called them to know that they had few cakes available for the day and went to check them. The cake was really tasty. Thank you for the service. The only downside was that the price was a little higher for my budget but i think it was fine compared to other bakeries. I would highly recommend approaching them for a birthday cake near to East Finchley.
