Comfortable but unremarkable county house hotel. Staff very friendly and attentive. Room perfectly adequate though hairs in the sink wouldn't have got a high rating on Four in A Bed!. Very handy stop off from M6. Lovely surroundings and quiet. Breakfast at £12.95 too expensive to try.

Nice rooms but that's about it! Front of house staff need to be moved to the bar and the bar staff to the front as they were the only ones that are polite! Freezing cold as the breathing was off and a work college had cold food brought out! Shocking service. Looks like it was nice about 15 years ago and the corridors are just missing some trikes like on the shining, no wake up call added to the insult so probably wouldn't stay again.

“Don't come back, you're not welcome"...... is that anyway for a member of your staff to talk to a paying guest. We had booked a dinner, bed and breakfast break with Chimney House Hotel for our wedding anniversary as we got married here 2 years ago. All was going OK until we woke up this morning to no hot water. I rang down to reception at 8 am and they told me that they would check the boiler or get a maintenance man to look at it. Nothing.... We washed n cold water and went down for breakfast, telling the lady on reception that we would "Sort something out" on checkout. Halfway through our breakfast (which by the way was not kept warm by the heat lamps) the receptionist came up to our table offering us the use of a shower in another room. My wife had already done her hair and make up, and we were already dressed and ready for leaving, so we declined. When we checked out I asked the receptionist what we were doing about the bill. She told me we owed £65. I was rather flabbergasted because we had paid on arrival for the booked Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package. She then changed her mind and decided we owed £19.99 for the wine. which was fine. I then suggested that this price should be waived as compensation for the lack of hot water. She told me I should take it up with "sales".. Why. She insisted on me paying, I refused politely telling her that if "sales" wanted to take it up with me they were more that welcome to do so. So saying she took a piece of paper asking for my name and contact details, I told her she already had them on the booking sheet. That was when she came out with her rather rude comment "Don't come back, you're not welcome" My reply was "Thank you for spoiling our wedding anniversary". We then drove home for a decent cup of tea and a shower. They do say if you have a problem, tell the staff at the time. This I did, with no effect so you will be able to read this again on "Trip Adviser".

Could be a lovely hotel, currently undergoing refurbishment. In-laws stayed there - the room was clean but, small and dated, the breakfast on both mornings was very poor, they complained of hard eggs and recooked bacon that shattered when they tried to cut it. The bar area where we sat to have a drink on their last night was cold and without any character, blank grey walls and ceiling, no pictures, ornaments or flowers and no music.

Following a saturday night stay at The Chimney House Hotel we were very impressed with the Hotel, gardens & the stunning interiors. If your looking for a special place to stay..this is it. There is clearly a passion to make your stay a special one & the staff make every effort to achieve this with their exceptional service & friendly presentation. The in house restaurant is beautifully layed out & spacious ..whilst the meal itself was tasty & well presented with a fine array of supporting wines. Our room was clean & warm with a nice view of the woodland garden.Tea making facilities were good but actual provisions of tea,etc was on the limited side. All in all a first time stay for these Tutbury residents will see a definite return & a no hesitation recommendation.Superb.
