I stayed this BH weekend with my 3 children, and a friend and her son, with our VW camper & awning. This is such a gem of a campsite. Absolutely wonderful. Bella is a very welcoming host, the setting is gorgeous, the facilities are rustic but spotless, it was only a 45 mins drive from home, you don't feel squished in with others, lovely short ramble to a couple of pubs, HUGE basket of logs and firepit provided, plus a picnic bench. Really couldn't fault it at all. We were in the field next to the woodland - a HUGE field, with only 5 other groups in it - even if they had been noisy I think they were far enough away we wouldn't have heard them! It was a baking hot weekend and there is no shade in the field, but the kids loved exploring the woodland looking for geocache, making dens etc, and keeping cool under the canopy. Definitely coming back another time!

Stayed for two nights over the Bank Holiday weekend and it was brilliant! Bella was fantastic with us, very accommodating and patient with us (we turned up a tad late), but she was brilliant and allowed us to just get on with it, but she was a call away if we needed anything. The camp site was brilliant too, in a beautiful location, and we weren't crammed in like sardines either so it's very enjoyable. The fire pits and the complimentary logs were a nice addition, and added greatly to our stay. Great facilities alongside this too, plenty of portable toilets (cleanest we've ever seen!), a shower block (a bit temperamental), and indoor toilets too. All in all, great stay and would go again!

Bella is extremely helpful and available to her guests, the area is lovely with plenty of walks from the campsite in any direction, the site itself is extremely well made with plenty of pitch benefiting from added privacy by natural features, each pitch in the woodland has a picnic bench and a fire pit which is a great feature if you ask me! Logs are available from baskets around the camping and there is a ton of free wood there for your camp fire, another good thing that makes the price just right at £30 per tent adding value besides the pitch itself. We were there on Saturday so bank holidays, kids families etc... however there is plenty of separation between pitches, maybe next time we will try the grass pitch instead of the woodland but will definitely come back. Last but not least facilities were excellent, despite being very busy, there are three clean toilettes, sink to brush your teeth / shave plus another sink to wash your dirty cooking stuff.

Loved staying here for a couple of nights. The dog can roam free as long as you have control (usually without sausages n children as she loves both!) Price is a little steep for the amount of amenities on offer and lack of rubbish disposal but the area is beautiful with a choice of a large field or your own private woodland retreat. Bella the owner is the perfect hostess and does not impinge on you throughout your stay, her motto seems to be........if you're happy I'm happy. Her dogs are lovely and visited us each day to play with our hound and have some fuss. Fantastic walks in the surrounding areas if you're not scared to walk through cows n live stock. Defiantly worth checking out. Wild camping experience it most definitely is with extras included I for one will be returning should Bella allow us after reading this review lol

Chiltern Retreat Rural Camping was an amazing find for us - 4 girls in our twenties with a little dog looking for a spot to camp at the weekend, and Bella even gave us a choice of a meadow or woodland pitch when we arrived. We chose the woodland and had a spacious, secluded spot which we were able to make our own and the fire pit and logs was an awesome touch which really made the experience. The site is beautiful, and you really feel like you're getting away from it all, I couldn't recommend this place enough - I just hope it stays as it is and doesn't get too popular!
