Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa

Story

Chewton Glen is a five star hotel and spa located on the edge of the New Forest National Park on the South Coast of England. It is a member of the Relais & Châteaux association.LocationChewton Glen Hotel is situated in New Milton in Hampshire on the South Coast of England. The name "Chewton Glen" refers to a tree-lined ravine, otherwise known as Chewton Bunny, a short distance to the south of the hotel.HistoryChewton Glen House dates from the early 18th century and Captain Frederick Marryat stayed here for periods in the 1840s, during which time he was writing the novel The Children of the New Forest. Marryat's brother, George, owned the property from 1837 until 1855.In 1947 the house was bought, with the nearby farm, stables and 120 hectares of land, by the Duval (or Devall) family, who restored the old buildings. They converted the property into a hotel in 1962. The hotel was sold to Martin Skan and his brother Trevor in 1966. At that time only two rooms had their own bathroom, but within a few years they modernised the hotel with new kitchens, a lounge, a dining room and 45 hotel rooms, each with a private bath. Within ten years the hotel had an international reputation, and the Skans remained proprietors for 40 years. In 2006, Chewton Glen was bought by the property magnate Ian Livingstone. It has since become one of many hotels owned by London & Regional Properties, a property company which Livingstone founded with his brother in 1987.

Has anyone lost personal stuff and the hotel? We had a great stay and our children loved the hotel. But sadly I’m really certain my Chanel sunglasses were taken from our room when the night service was done. I mentioned to the reception and nothing was done about it. And now I also missing a really nice leather jacket I’m sure I had at the hotel and didn’t came back home. Seem strange to have lost two expensive items by chance same weekend. Many thanks.

Got treated to afternoon tea by my husband as a birthday treat. Was not disappointed. On arrival met by a friendly doorman. We chose to sit in the bar until the dining room was ready for afternoon tea. Brilliant gin selection, 29 to be exact but you do pay 5 star prices, to be expected though! Afternoon tea amazing beautiful selection of sandwiches including Brie and pear chutney and smoked salmon with dill butter. Nice to have something different and you are offered another round. Good selection of teas which were explained to us. All round an amazing experience and nice to be pampered like royally for a couple of hours. For being 5 star hotel a couple of minor issues. One was the sandwiches come out in different widths but same length, was really surprised as had afternoon tea in a 5 star establishment in London and they were like soldiers all uniform. Second was all the creases on the table cloths. Minor I know but it is 5 stars after all. Would certainly return. Lady in the shop lovely, brought a teddy, so beautifully wrapped when she knew it was a birthday present from me to me!

Beautifull, lovely place for holiday! Treehouses are breathtaking, quiet, away from the world, like in a dream. Rooms clean and tidy. Provided towels toilet amenities, drinks, even some snacks. High service standard, amazing Food and Staff so friendly that you can feel like at home. Lots of attractions, Spa, bar, restaurant, golf fields and little kitchen where you can eat and learn how to cook amazing stuff. You can come with your dog, cat or as i guess even parrots if needed they will find some good Food and place for them. Also club for kids so if you want to have some relax those guys will help you. Amazing staff. Amazing place.

Spa day with treatments at the Chewton Glenn Hotel....pure luxury. What a wonderful relaxing day. We arrived for our breakfast at 9.30am and didn't leave until 8pm. Marvellous surroundings and wonderful staff made our visit very special. We will return.

Nice but with issues. We came here on a family trip for Easter. It is a nice location with lovely grounds, only thing is you can hear the road. We stayed in one of the tree houses which was fantastic. Kavan was our porter and looked after us very well. When we explored and used other facilities I found the place a bit tired in places, the spa needs maintenance and a bit of updating. The gym is cluttered and untidy. We booked some activities which were fun and staff were good. But the rest of the service we felt was poor for the level we expected here. Food at lunch time took and age to come out, hour and half at times, some of the staff members were rather rued in the bar and restaurant and it seemed as if they didn't want to be there. For a five star hotel the service should be much better than this. The food got better over the weekend, but the first night wasn't what we expected. Overall I think the management need to have a review the facilities and improve the service.
