There are no bins on the platform or stairs. It's dark, the stairs are dirty, the seats on the platform are uncomfortable, almost designed not to be sat on.nWould be nice if there was a waiting area with heating or toilets.nThe intercom at the ticket booth is terrible, sounds like the speakers are blown.nIf facilities in general were improved it might make you more tempted to use the train instead of the car, the prospect of waiting for a delayed/cancelled train in the middle of winter doesn't really fill you with joy.
I use the trainline app regularly in England. Its usually effortless. For some reason the Scottish tickets are a massive pain to load up and use requiring a lot of steps. So I asked the guard what to do, he could see i was in hurry. On the app it said where my train was and that I had tickets. In England, the guards would just let you through. This guard took an absolute age looking through my app and in the end i figured it out and got through, I only just abiut got my train. Its either massive incompetence on the part of the guard. Or a hatred of English prople. Either way extremely poor.
A little station on a main line. It’s a great alternative to walk from here to anywhere in the city center if you want to avoid Glasgow Queen Street and Central Station.nnClose by is the Mitchell library, the Kings Theatre, Willow Grove Coffee, huge Premier Inn and even a lap dancing club right outside the station.
A throwback to the 70s both architecturally and in atmosphere. A dingy hub next to the motorway on the edge of the city centre but oddly with with a decent bar/restaurant, a busy sandwich cafe, a chain hotel and a strip joint. With Scottish Opera and Quakers next door. Quirky place.
Charing Cross is a great little station, quieter than Queen Street and the perfect stop for Glasgow's finest, the Mitchell Library and the King's Theatre. Some great bars near by and staff are really helpful
