Excellent find for a pub meal in Dumfries. Really friendly and chatty staff who couldn't do enough for you. Walked in with no booking on a Sunday and they happily accommodated us. Sat in a lovely, heated extension with TVs in at the back of the building. Would choose to sit out there again. Food was very reasonably priced, and came in huge, high quality portions. Would definitely recommend anything on the menu with their haggis or any of the burgers. Best thing was they did chippy chips! Will definitely be back.
Stopped here based on a desperate Google search for a pub serving meals while on a drive north. So glad we did ... food was terrific and generous and service was a hoot. Clearly popular with the locals based on the crowd. Worth seeking out.
Arrived on a busy Friday night on Burns'Week. The place was full and we hadn't made a reservation. The staff was unflappable! We were told it would be 30 minutes for a table to dine at, but in just a couple of minutes were escorted kindly to a small table at the bar area to enjoy drinks and given menus to place our food order while we waited for a dining table to open. The drinks menu was exceptionally good! Although, I have to admit, I would have liked to see some Scotch Ales/Wee Heavy beers at a bar in Scotland! Our table was ready before expected, and the food arrived within a few minutes. We had the haggis, neeps and tatties, a steak and ale pie, and a lasagna. All were superbly done! The haggis came with a side of whiskey and cream sauce which enhanced the flavor greatly - especially the neeps! I cannot stress enough how friendly and helpful each member of the staff here was! From the bar, to the servers, to the maitre d, to the hostess and even the young lady acting as a bus person obviously in her first job. This place was packed and they all handled it with grace and kindness. Absolutely stellar!

Brilliant place outside cover area so dog friendly, people friendly, staff friendly what more could i say wife had macaroni cheese i had all day breakfast ,but just head up need ask for mushrooms, say hi to manager from me
This is always a must visit when I'm in Dumfries visiting family. Food and service is always amazing. Atmosphere, menus and prices are great as well. They have the best Mac and Cheese anywhere in the UK. I see why Cavens wins pub of the year every year in Dumfries and Galloway. Highly recommended!
Yet another amazing meal. Every single surface in this place is spotlessly clean. Food was outstanding, portions are massive. Best place to eat out in Dumfries. And they don't allow anyone under 14 which makes the whole experience even better - no screaming kids!

We were told about this place a few years ago but never got around to trying it until recently & are now wondering why it took us so long to check this fabulous place out ! From the staff to the amazing quality of the food we were not disappointed and will definitely be coming back when we visit the area again . Do yourselves a favour and eat at this place you will love it as we did . See you all again soon at Cavens Arms XxX
Brilliant pub, actually stumbled on this place by chance, very busy and lucky to get a table. Menu is extensive and something for all tastes. Staff are excellent and attentive, there is a good atmosphere in the place, and food very good above average for pub grub and valve for money. I can understand why this place has won so many awards.
