Great lunch spot after a visit to Bodiam Castle just a stones throw away across the road. Lovely indoor seating as well as a large outdoor area with heaps of open garden for kids to run around! The food was spot on, a few starters and a main to share was just perfect for 2 of us! Worth a detour to grab a bite here.
Well, on the face of it a lovely little British pub on the side of a small country road. Where as in fact it’s an often very busy pub at weekends mainly due to the castle opposite and the waterway & camping nearby! We’ve stayed locally twice now and each time we do the walks, the castle and end up at the pub! The last time we also had food, both opted for the burgers which were ok-good or 6/10. The staff always seem busy but probably down to a shortage, I bet it’s hard to recruit around these parts at the moment. It’s got a very British feel to it, so makes it a nice place to hang out in the sunshine for a refreshing pint.
What a lovely surprise. We popped in for a meal and were treated to friendly staff, very tasty filling food and an open fire. Will defiantly visit again. The ale was good too. 22 10.22
Second visit and not disappointed - Sunday lunch this time round, the food was fresh and tasty, the staff are very helpful and polite despite being so busy - great location opposite Bodiam Castle and we will definitely be back again
We had a delicious lunch the other day in the lovely garden at the Castle Inn. The service was great, the food was really tasty. I had the Kofta salad, my husband had the Teriyaki Salmon, both excellent. He then enjoyed a sticky toffee pudding, whilst I had a delicious jelly with ice cream. Would definitely recommend popping in here. We will be back given half a chance.

Really good pub. You know it's a good one when the place is full on a Sunday afternoon. Great roast and a great selection of drinks also, but you'd expect this from a Shepherd Neame pub. It's great after a walk around Bodiam Castle on a chilly wet afternoon. Would recommend
Polite staff, exemplary service, amazing view of fields, old train station and Bodium castle and most important of all great food that is prepared fresh.
My family and I had lunch here today, and it was lovely. We were greeted with genuine smiles as we arrived and the staff work really hard to check everyone is okay. They were especially helpful with the menu when we were ordering for our soya/lactose intolerant daughter. The food was absolutely lovely and we all left full and happy. What added the final touch was that there was a delay on our desert, and when we asked they made sure it came immediately at that point, and removed one of them from our bill as an apology. So thoughtful, and their apology while really not needed as we could see how busy they were was delivered with total sincerity. Lovely. Exactly what a British pub should be on a Sunday afternoon and they're dog friendly. Highly recommend after a walk round Bodiam Castle.
Nice little pub - across the road from Bodliam Castle strangely enough ...... Friendly staff, good beer. Was filling up for Sunday lunches, so quite busy. Didn't try food this time but it did smell good !!
