Fabulous little herritage line with a spectacular main station at Oswestry. Very family friendly line as not too long for the kids.nnThe line starts at Oswestry and finishes at Western Wharf station where you can find and excellent utilisation of a former LNER MK3 buffet coach that still to this day maintains its role with seating inside and out. This is flanked by Stonehouse Brewery - a fine establishment for food and drink.nnA visit to the Musuem that is situated across the car park in Oswestry is an absolute must which displays artifacts from Britains great railway history. If you are lucky you will greeted by local celebrity Mr Paul Evans inside the museum who will show you around and also holds just as much history and information as the pieces on display as he is indeed an ex Great Western Railways locomotive fireman from the steam hayday! You can pick up a copy of his book titled 'Steaming Through Life' absolute must have if you're into the railways i was fortunate enough for him to sign my copy.nnA fabulous historic Great British establishment inside one of Britain's finest towns. A must see.
Fantastic little railway!! Visited with my partner and we had a lovely time. The ride is short at only 10 minutes but theres lots to see out the window and we loved the carriage compartment to ourselves! We travelled at 11am on Sunday and it wasn't too busy. Staff in the shop were really friendly and we will be sure to be back.
Visited the Cambrian Heritage Railway on Easter Day with my wife. It was a quiet and peaceful experience, not too busy. We bought the day pass for £8 per person, which allowed unlimited travel for the day – although we only did a return trip between Oswestry and Weston Wharf, which takes around 10 minutes each way.nnThe journey is short but scenic, offering a nice heritage railway experience. At Weston Wharf, there’s a lovely pub and brewery where you can relax and a stationary train serving snacks and refreshments. There are also clean, free-to-use washrooms at the station, which was really convenient.nnAll the staff and volunteers were friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. The ticket price, it’s more about enjoying the atmosphere and supporting a great local attraction. It's definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Visited as part of the Heritage Open Days weekend with my not-quite two-year old and had a fantastic day.nnOswestry station has great facilities, cafe was very reasonably priced for a cup of tea and plenty to keep a toddler occupied while waiting for the train, as well as good toilets and a dedicated baby change.nnThe journey isn't very long to Weston Wharf but is long enough for the little one to enjoy riding in a railway compartment and look out the window. Services ran all day when we went, so you could spend longer there and go into the brewery, but the 40ish mins we had was enough to have a drink and snack in the buffet car and watch the engine run round before heading back to Oswestry.nnWe then drove to Llynclys for a bonus ride in the brake van, pulled by a diesel. Sometimes they have a shuttle bus but it wasn't running when we went due to costs. Again, it was only a short ride to Penycarreg but ideal for a toddler to enjoy the perks of the guard's van!nnReally good value for money for a steam railway, the volunteers were all fantastic, they were all very accommodating and doing a great job.
Considering the short period of time this line has been operating they've done really well. The staff are very friendly and happy to answer any questions. The station building at Oswestry is impressive and confirms the grandeur of past times. The line is just short of 2 miles. Weston Wharf station at the end of the line has a brewery next door which serves fine ales and bar meal food. All in all well worth a visit for families and railway enthusiasts.
