Nice food although it did take a little longer than I expected to arrive. Really friendly staff.
I've been meaning to try this out for months and never had the chance. We fancied going out for breakfast so thought it was perfect opportunity. The staff were lovely, even when we had a grumpy baby with us. The food was amazing! Everything we had was lovely and even took cake home with us to have later. We will definatley be going back to try lunch/dinner and will be my go to spot for having a afternoon hot chocolate as it's one of the best I've had!
Surprised to find the eggs royal at cafe Royal to be so very disappointing. Never have I ever gotten so little salmon. The hollandaise is tasteless, and the muffin is so dry it actually crumbles. Would not order again or recommend to anyone. The coffe is good though, and the service is friendly, so that saves them from only two stars from me.
When shopping in Newcastle this was our number 1 choice for eating. However not anymore, Cafe Royal is on a downward slide for service and food quality, which is such a shame as we’ve been loyal customers for a number of years. Whilst we have been disappointed a number of times re service one particular experience stands out. Several Saturdays ago we ordered 2 soups. We waited 1 hour before it arrived! Several people who arrived after us and ordered more complex dishes were served before us. If that wasn’t bad enough the soups were lukewarm and tasteless. When I complained the person in charge made several excuses about being busy but offered coffees as compensation. Waited a further 30 minutes, needless to say coffees didn’t arrive - we left in disgust!!! Will not be returning.
Wish I'd seen the review about lack of gluten free options before we entered. The café looks great but there was little to indicate that you needed to go up to order, so we sat for a while before going up to order. The cakes /scones looked amazing and as it states there are gluten free options, I was quite optimistic. When asking about gluten free they asked if it was an allergy or an intolerance? Another member of staff then advised that they are not a gluten free kitchen and was then handed a folder to look at what allergens were in which foods. It wasn't helpful. Please have a menu of what you can offer, not just a folder? I was made to feel like a nuisance and didn't feel they wanted my business anyway. It's not a choice gluten makes me unwell. My husband, hasn't got any allergy, had a waffle with salmon, poached egg and dill sauce it wasn't good, the waffle was overcooked and tasteless. I get how expensive gluten free options can be but if you offer gluten free bread at least that's something.
Staff and service are good. Although they are not allergy friendly or food intolerance friendly bakery. Hello..... it is 2020, there’s people dying out there for this kind of food intolerance and allergies, you need to raised your standards and start serving those people as well. I asked for gluten free bread and they said they don't do it. I was really confused as the first thing I spotted on Their menu was that you do have gluten free and vegan options available, why would you sell that on your menu when you clearly DONT have those options. Not impressed. Real shame as the place is very nice.
First visit today, I ordered the Hot Smoked Salmon and it came out freezing cold. The potato's kept it a little warm and was going to send it back but i'm not really one for complaining, there's worse that goes on in the world and will always give a true review. My friend also got a burger which he sent back as it was well over done, the cafe happily replaced it for him. Over all a nice place to visit just a little disappointed with the food this time round. Will visit again to give it another try maybe.
£11.75's a bad price for a very regular breakfast. They tried to make it nice, but honestly, all the effort doesn't come through in flavour. And if it doesn't come through in flavour, what's all the fuss for? Also the eggs Benedict was completely overpowered by the lemon. Service was fine.
Nice place for coffee, brunch or light meals. Totally recommended
Really disappointed. Was my favourite place for coffee and raspberry scone. Went yesterday and for my birthday treat we had the scones with jam and cream or at least half of the scones had jam and cream not enough for 2 halves. Not cheap to be penny pinching.
