Outstanding vegan food - definitely the best Sunday lunch we have had anywhere. A delicious meal, really well-balanced and no compromise on flavour. So many dessert options including a cheese board. Great service and very knowledgeable. Looking forward to our next meal there!
Fantastic couple of nights here! Highly recommend paying The Bruce Arms a visit for a pint, meal or night away. The food was fantastic, and Matt was a great host for the weekend. We each enjoyed the smoked bacon loin and lamb cannon. The sticky toffee pudding - what a treat!! The menu changes every couple of weeks or so, so you can be sure to get something seasonal. The breakfast was fab! Great local butcher’s produce. Some may say the food is not the cheapest, but hey, you get what you pay for. The Bruce seems to be on the up with the owners wanting to build up their business which is great to see and support. We will be back!!
Nice little country pub with a real fire. Seating is a bit limited unless you are eating, in which case the restaurant should suffice. It's probably best to book ahead. Excellent ales on tap with friendly bar staff. Mental note to have a meal next visit.Service: 5/5
Quaint little pub in West Tanfield. Was our only choice as the Black Bull was closed for refurbishment, but didn't mind luckily as it was a very friendly and chilled bar with nice staff and patrons and some excellent ales on draft. Dog friendly too which pleased Storm and Shadow. Didn't have food so can't rate it ... yet.Service: 4/5
Visited here on New Year's Eve for lunch together with a return visit on 22nd January for Sunday lunch. Both times were excellent, and was the reason for our return visit. A great location, great service, dog-friendly and a good selection of drinks and real ales. The food was amazing and had the 'Chicken + Ham Pie with Triple Cooked Chips' on my first visit followed by a 'Christmas Sticky Toffee Pudding'. The Sunday lunch is still the best that I have had so far this year. Had 'Roast chicken breast, sausage meat + bacon' followed by 'Lemon posset, raspberries, and cumin shortbread'. Simply divine food and will definitely recommend and return
A great place to go. Food, drink, service, atmosphere all exceed expectations. We love it and couldn't wish for more time and time again, whether it's just us as a couple or with our family and friends the Bruce never lets us down. A credit to landlord and staff.Food: 5/5

Stayed at the Bruce Arms for 2 nights from the moment we walked in we felt welcomed room Excellent food outstanding atmosphere wonderful very dog friendly can't wait to come back Rooms: Very clean and welcoming Walkability: Beautiful walks along the river Food & drinks: Outstanding food excellent selection of drinks Dietary restrictions: Being Dairy free the chef catered for me
A lovely evening, centred around perfectly executed meals, in a friendly relaxed setting. The venison is a dish I would have again tomorrow, as was the starter to be honest, Black pudding and crispy duck egg. No doubt we will be back to try out the rest of the menu at some point very soon, babysitters permitting. Nice selection of ales on too, theakstons and a couple of guest pale options
