Facilities are OK but sadly we encountered a very rude receptionist on our first visit to Brickfields Sports Centre. After contacting the Plymouth Life Centre, of which I am a member, and being reassured that I could redeem some of my accrued reward points from the Life Centre for a guest pass, and that this was transferable to Brickfields Sports Centre, we were then told this was not possible by the receptionist at Brickfields Sports Centre. So no problem, my partner paid the £5.65 to use the gym without any protest. No big deal. Shortly thereafter we were told by another member of staff who was present at the front desk at the time that they had since contacted Plymouth Life Centre and had on the contrary had been informed that we were correct in stating that we could use a free guest pass at Brickfields. So after informing my girlfriend of this I accompanied her back to the front desk, only to be told by the first receptionist that we could not in fact use a guest pass at Brickfields, despite what we had just been told. To be clear, I do not have any issue with the Everyone Active policy either way, whether or not the guest pass could legitimately be used in this situation. But I do have an issue with being told one thing by one person and something completely contrary by someone else, especially when we are the ones who are being made to look the fools, which was certainly the case here. The level of rudeness and condescension by the member of staff concerned was something to behold. I have not personally encountered anyone this rude and patronizing for a very long time. And I was especially upset by how my partner was spoken to, who really did not deserve to be spoken to in the manner she was. If it had been just me I would probably have just let this pass. But seeing as my partner had to endure this awful hostile receptionist as well, I considered it well worthwhile to at least write a negative review about it. The rest of the staff seemed friendly enough however. We were perhaps just unlucky to come on the wrong day.

Lovely and quiet environment. Good desk staff who get to know you and good clean rooms for exercise classes. Esp the dance studio upstairs, with mirrors. Good showers. No pool, but probably what keeps it nice and quiet.

I seriously underestimated this excellent gym when I first looked it over. Consequently I joined a 'hardcore' gym further away, but yes, I never went. When I eventually joined due to the gym's proximity - I could not believe how well equipped this gym actually is. It has a completely non intimidating and non judging atmosphere. There is not a steriodal guy in sight - and lots of the patrons have serious disabilities too and they feel totally comfortable and accepted here. One word: JOIN!!!

For a big city this is in such poor condition. Compared to swimming facility which is top notch. And on such a huge site there could be great cycle facilities. Come on Plymouth !
