Bottisham Aerodrome Museum sits alongside the original WWII Airfield which is now a farmers field as after the war airfields were returned to agriculture. The nissan hut which is the temporary but very informative museum is a reconstruction using the same materials on the actual site of the wartime nissan hut, my first time seeing the reconstruction of a WWII military building on its original footings. In WWII the RAF and USAF employed the use of flight simulators to train pilots on night navigation and various other aero activities. It is quite common to find old aerodrome buildings including a link trainer building. Bottisham Airfield Museum has its own actual WWII Flight Simulator (USAF version) Link Trainer, I have never seen one before, it is living history coming to life. The museum at Bottisham is an essential part of Cambridgeshire Life and something like this should be supported. We went there on Sunday 3rd September 2017 on their open day and it was a thrill to see, my friend and I were fortunate to get a tour of Bottisham village in an american jeep (french version) where nearly 3000 aerodrome personnel resided during the war. As we drove up one of the main country lanes we were told that the runway crossed the lane and continued on. The cluster of remaining wartime buildings are being renovated and restored to their original glory including the map room and CO's office. Bottisham is a WWII Nugget. I class Bottisham Airfield Museum on the same par as North Weald Airfield Museum. My personal score for Bottisham Airfield Museum is 10/10. The Museum is 3 miles outside of Cambridge; if you exit the A14 at junction 35 it will be sign posted for Bottisham and Stow cum Quy, follow the 1303 towards Bottisham and Newmarket. Take the 2nd right turn, onto Wilbraham Road; the Museum is 100 yards along on your right. Bottisham Airfield Museum is Living History.

It tells the story of the Airfield and the airmen which were based there during the second world war and is a growing memoria and well worth a visit especially on the open weekend.

As a Dutch kid living in Bottisham from 1963 to 1968 the then derilict aerodrome was a fascinating thing for a six to eight year old when I went back to the Netharlands. Hope to visit the museum in the years to come. All the best wishes to keep at least some of this heritage in a corner of the fields alive for posterity. Regards Gerhard Ris
