I am new to the letting market and needed an Agency which could help me on a step by step basis. The information and the guidance given to me was excellent. The properties which I intended to let both required the attention of suitably qualified tradespeople. Those trades were engaged on my behalf by Border Country Lets. Their arrival of tradespeople was timely and the work done was to a good standard. I am satisfied that I received the service which I expected. The staff from the Kelso office did all that they could to make the entire exercise of entering into the letting market as simple for me as could be hoped for.
Dealing with Mark at ‘Border Country Let’s’, regarding one of their rental properties, went incredibly smoothly, from the initial viewing to my moving into the property. Mark kept me up to date at every step and responded quickly to my enquiries. He made the process so unstressful, when there is usually a lot of stress in moving home at any time. Mark is very personable, efficient, understanding and easy to talk with, which makes a tenant feel valued. Highly recommended.
Unfortunately I had a really unpleasant and stressful experience with this agency for most of the 6 months that I rented with them, that ended in me having to leave the property early. They rented a damp, drafty, leaking house to me. I moved in in May and as soon as autumn arrived so did the water coming in through the roof, with damp ceilings and patches showing up in the livingroom. The house desperately needed upgrades and constant repairs throughout the house, most of which were never done during my tenancy despite me having to spend a lot of time trying to get things fixed. The house was not fit for tenancy, I was constantly sick while I was there with allergies and chest problems. And they just didn't seem to care. They showed a serious lack of professionalism, no concern for tenant rights and zero integrity in practice. I felt that I didn't have any rights at all.They didn't believe half of what I told them about the property - they only came out to inspect it once after 4 months of living there. I felt disregarded with each communication I made to them. I’ve rented many places in my life, and I’ve never had an experience like this, it was really stressful and unpleasant. When I made a direct formal complaint to them they responded in the same way, by challenging everything I reported and admitting nothing. Really disappointing experience. Lack of tenant support, inefficiency and poor customer service.
