This is very friendly and welcoming pub, the manager is helpful and can't do enough for you, they even bring water for your dogs. It has certainly seen a massive improvement since the new management has taken over. In the summer it's the perfect setting by the river to spend a lazy afternoon.
Huge pub beside Wallingford Bridge with a bigger space outside than in which is still big by pub standards. Shows live football. Came here for the Sunday roast beef or turkey with all the trimmings. Two slices of beef, a Yorkshire Pudding, roast potatoes, stuffing, peas, cauliflower, broccoli, gravy all on one plate and suitable for sharing. The roast potatoes were underdone, broccoli overdone, stuffing wasn't very nice and the beef a little sorry. To be fair, we did arrive after lunchtime. Also had the award winning chicken and ham pie but found it wanting and with the same veg state as with the roast beef. Comes with gravy in a pot. Find a table and order at the bar and food will be delivered. Boat House is a pleasant enough place but we felt let down by the food quality.
Fantastic pub with Riverside views. All staff was really friendly and very helpful. Would certainly recommend this place. Plenty of outdoor seating too next to the river
Nice setting and ok food prices but Shame about the smoking and service. We visited on a Sunday, when we arrived it was cricket on the telly and there were quite a few drinkers there however this all cleared out about 10 mins after the match ended. My wife brought a round of two very expensive ciders and a couple of diet cokes totaling around £15 to our table outside. I went back into the restaurant to collect a jug of table water. The bar staff told me he would bring one out to me which never arrived. The reason we wanted to eat at the restaurant was for the view of the river. Unfortunately, there were no non-smoking areas with that view or even outside so we had to move inside. I went back to the bar to inform the bar staff we had moved inside out of the smoke, to order our food and remind them we were still waiting for our water. We waited a further 20 mins before an older waiter asked if we were waiting for food, I told him we were and we also still wanted the water. He returned quickly with a jug. A further 20 mins and our food was served. The food was of ok standard but nothing special and I remember the onion rings were soggy not crispy. I couldn't see any reason why our food took so long to serve, the place was not busy as most of the inside cleared very quickly after the sport ended and I felt put out to have to move inside. To add insult to injury, when I visited the gents, the urinals flushed while I was using it, causing it to overflow and spilling over my shoe.
The boat House is in an idyllic situation on the river, and the views from outside are great. However, the outside allows smoking at all tables, and if you do not find this appetising while you eat, you have to sit inside, which is very hot in mid July 2022. The website says they have parking, but they dont, and the suggested car park is fine for small cars but is hopeless if you have a larger car, as at least 1/3 of the spaces prohibit large cars, and these are the empty ones. The staff are friendly, but we had errors on our bill that were hard to sort out.
We have popped in for a quick bite on our journey back home as it did attract our attention. Very popular place amongst locals and travelers, so be prepared it will be very busy. Nice selection of food and drinks. Very strict covid rules. Toilets are inside of the building and are open for public to use and very clean. All staff are very polite, helpful and very attentive to your needs. We were told that food waiting time would be around 45 minutes, which we agreed to and and it was spot on, so no complaints there! Beautiful river near by with lots of boats on, which you can rent too! Absolute picturesque place and would recommend to any one who wants to enjoy their meal or drinks in very relaxing atmosphere. The car park just across the bridge on another side from there.
Great spot on the river with loads of outdoor space and electric boat hire at the waterside. Food is typical chain pub grub, staff were very friendly and lunch time service was very efficient.
Can sit outside with a good view of the Thames if it is not too busy otherwise it is a courtyard rather than a garden. Reasonable range of beers and service was fine. A pretty good place to stop from the Thames path.
A nice spot on the river when the weather is nice. Went on the website as it said you had to book a table which I did, but when we got there & was greated by a member of staff he just said he believed that we had booked but wasn't really bothered if we had or not which I thought wasn't professional really then asked if we could have a table by the river front in which his answer was if these 1 there you can have 1, all orders are done by the app if you sit outside which I didn't think was too bad on ordering the wait was about 20 minutes which I thought was a while seeing as it wasn't too busy then when the food came I ordered ham, eggs and chips but I didn't get any eggs nor was any cutlery or saucers brought to table, over all a nice pub but could be a lot better
It's OK. Location is nice, overlooking the Thames. The interior though is quite shabby and could really do with a little TLC. There are lots of large TV screens for sports etc so I could imagine it gets quite busy when there are big sporting events on.
