I do not recommend at all !!!!! Went to see a consultant which was really nice but the administration in this hospital is useless !!!! i went there in January last year and again in June, i have received two invoices, i paid for them a couple of days after. Then a year after so today i am getting a reminder of 1227 GBP to pay ?? Every time i went there my appointments was booked under someone else name! I wouldn't be surprise that this reminder is for someone else!!

Very bad experience. Booked an appointment with a consultant. Waited over an hour on the day of the appointment and the consultant didn't turn up. A nurse called him and he was on holiday!! The hospital had no clue and there was a full clinic waiting for him I got promised a call next day with an explanation and to reschedule the appointment 10 days later I got nothing , not even an apology. When I called again they were " under the impression" I had been called already . A complete shambles.

I was a patient at the Duchy hospital, I went in for a routine back operation to relieve a nerve that was damaged in my back and put an implant in my neck to hold my disks in place after an accident. After the first operation I woke up and washed my face and hands with the night nurse present, then the day nurse came in and took one look at me and pressed the alarm button. I could hardly breathe I apparently had a haematoma in my neck that was swollen up like a melon. Everything became a blur as doctors came in and out deciding what they needed to do, they must have contacted the surgeon who put the yolk in my neck because he was by my bedside in what seemed like an age but was I was told twenty minutes. I was rushed into emergency surgery and I was told that I had developed a haematoma which the surgeon evacuated successfully and I loved to fight another day. Second operation the day after my back operation to relieve a nerve I was asked by the physio to get out of bed and take a walk down the corridor and up the stairs. I couldn't make it back down the stairs without help and the pain was unbelievable, I was told by a doctor??? that it was a muscle spasm and should clear itself if I walked it of and they discharged me on the friday afternoon even though I had to be removed in a wheelchair. I didn't make it to Monday I had to readmit myself on Sunday because I couldn't stand the pain, I couldn't stand, sit or move very far, I was put on morphine to subdue the pain. Monday came and I was taken to Harrogate MRi because Duchy didn't have one and the outcome was I had a massive haematoma in my lower back where the operation had taken place. I was rushed into surgery and the haematoma was evacuated by the surgeon who had carried out the operation. Next day I was again asked by the physio to go for a walk down the corridor but this time I couldn't get out of bed the pain was back. They had to take me to Leeds hospital because they didn't have the right equipment or supplies at the Duchy. So my point eventually is if it all goes well and is a simple operation then you are fine to go private at the Duchy however if there are any complications they cannot cope and you have to be transferred to wherever the surgeon/consultant is based. They wouldn't admit their mistake either they refused to talk or discuss it with me and I received no compensation for all the pain I suffered and have suffered ever since. Thank God for the NHS they saved my life.

As bad as the NHS. I contacted then to arrange a private GP consultation, as they advertise, as there was a week to see my NHS GP and I was worried about an ear infection that caused hearing loss. I phoned up and 'there was nobody to deal with my inquiry'. They'd call me back. An hour later and still nothing. Unaccptable.
