Booked a table for 2pm. Informed which table had been reserved for us but very small. Told we could sit anywhere as long as it didn't have a reserved sign on but this was nearly all. However a table became free. There was a chap later identified as Steve cleaning a table 2 away from ours so we asked him to give ours a wipe as it had just been vacated. He was not very helpful and went over to the bar to get one of the girls to do it even though he had a cloth and spray in his hands. He was actually only cleaning that particular table as it was reserved for relatives. We had to wait 40 mins for food and the place wasn't that busy but we were informed of the wait. We ordered 2 X duo roasts. Beef was overcooked and tasteless not pink as advertised only o e slice of Turkey potatoes were pre frozen in all shapes and sizes and again extremely overcooked. Few carrots and peas cold and broccoli stems cold rubbery and inedible. Yorkshire's very stodgy. Had to wait at least a further 10 mins for gravy which was watery meanwhile food getting colder. No horse radish or cranberry sauces available. Cauliflower cheese was burnt and not a lot of cheese sauce. see photo attached. Waitress was very helpful and apologetic and said there was no manager and no deputy manager on site and the chef understatement is relatively new but Mr grumpy Steve who we understand is the team leader was not helpful. All in all a totally awful experience on what should if been a birthday catch up with my brother. Disappointed to have to write this review as we have had previous good experiences and reviewed accordingly Also of note the ladies toilets were lacking. First toilet no paper.middle toilet blocked with loads of paper 3 rd toilet no paper and no lock. Additional comments Been in touch with management. She couldn't apologize enough. Thank you.
Went in here two days in a row, first day, the staff were very nice towards us and catered towards our dog well as well. Only downside was the 1 hour wait for food, but, it was worth it. Came in today again, food was really nice and staff are friendly. Would definitely come back in the future.
We booked a table for 2 games of the 6nations on a Saturday afternoon. The pub was quite busy, clean, tidy and friendly. All bar staff were very professional and knowledgeable. The wait for food was explained to us and after our order the wait time was spot on. Special thanks to Caitlin on bar and lovely to meet the licencee Sara. Keep up the good work, we will be back
Went for food after work today with 2 of my colleagues - the food was fabulous, really tasty and good size portions. All the staff were really friendly and the service was quick and efficient. Highly recommend paying a visit - thank you.
Thank you to all the staff for our Christmas day experience. We had a warm welcome in a lovely informal atomosphere, our food came out promptly, we had a good plateful of moist turkey with all the trimmings and the man who served our food was really attentive. Would definitely book again.
Bought two meals Steak pie really good All day breakfast Well ... the sausages were absolutely shocking. Quite sure they were Not pork and certainly were Not cooked on the grill Complained to the young lad on the floor who said they were cooked on the Chargrill No chance whatsoever. No charred marks. Solid as a bone Inedible Certainly will NOT order again
Great food and very friendly staff. Have came here numerous times over the past few months and would like to particularly mention Courtney and Sara who went that extra mile on my most recent visit. I would highly recommend.
Went for a cheap and cheerful lunch with a friend... Very impressed with my award winning pie and mash plus please with the price I think was 2 x lunches for £14... Nice clean toilets, I consider this essential.
I attended here alone this evening and was treated extremely well. I cannot fault the amazing staff here, both front of house and kitchen. Also I want to point out that yes people make mistakes, it's normal.. The chef missed the baby potatoes from my salad, I asked a member of staff about it and an apology came several times and it was immediately rectified. I was even kindly offered a drink on the house to apologise for the mistake. If I lived local to here I would be here every week! Unfortunately I am just travelling for work. Thank you so so much to all of the team at The Black Horse, especially Harry and Courtney!!
£40 in drinks for 2 adults and 3 children and over an hours wait for food having been informed when we arrived it was 40mins wait. Enough was enough and we canceled the order and left. What a waste of time and money. This is a reoccurring issue at the Blackhorse. The staff try their hardest and when the food does get served it’s not bad but the management/Greene King are quite frankly ‘Sh*t’. Only 2 bar staff serving a full pub food/drinks/clearing tables etc is simply not good enough and unfair on them. They not only have to do the above but put up with unhappy customers and it’s simply unfair. As mentioned - Greeneking / Landlady - sort yourselves out.
