Bistro Union

About

Bistro Union is a neighbourhood bistro where all things quintessentially British take precedence.
Located at 40 Abbeville Road.

Story

Union is a British neighbourhood Bistro where all things quintessentially British take the lead.

The room is divided into four areas, all offering the same menu and beverage list but in different settings. The outside space seats sixteen, the no reservations front area seats twenty, and ten can be seated at bar stools surrounding a large wood clad feature bar top. The rear of the restaurant seats a further twenty guests in more sumptuous surroundings with Chesterfield leather banquette seats and low lighting.

The bar houses a food preparation area manned by one of our Chefs preparing and serving daily changing bar snacks listed on a drop down brown paper roll. These bar dishes are priced between £3-£5 and are available throughout the restaurant from 11am to 11pm.

Ultra-pleasant neighbourhood spot on a quiet street with excellent food, attentive service, and a well-crafted wine list. It’s also the sister to Trinity, the Michelin-starred spot in Clapham Old Town. Both restaurants are helmed by Chef Adam Byatt. Bistro Union is a gem. It’s super comfortable — the kind of place you could happily settle in for an afternoon, as the gang in the bar were doing on the day we visited. There’s a straightforward menu of things that you’ll want to eat. You can go traditional — starter, main, dessert — or mix and match plates to share from snacks to bigger stuff. It’s flexible enough to fit any mood or occasion. We went a bit wild and did both. Snacks included delicious comté gougères and brown crab arancini. Homemade bread and whipped butter was so good that we asked for a second round. For starter, the chicken liver & foie gras parfait was Michelin quality, and the burrata la latteria with romanesco and chilli was like a bowlful of spring. Mains were rabbit in mustard sauce and duck confit. Both were perfectly done. The rabbit falling off the bone and the mustard sauce well balanced with sharpness and creaminess. We were too full for dessert. But Bistro Union really delivered — with fantastic bistro-style food and in bringing us together over their delicious dishes.
We had a great experience at Bistrot Union today! The service is five star, people are friendly, accommodating and professional. They listen a lot and can give effective suggestions. Most importantly they offer free amazing bread and butter to start with The food is nothing but superlative as in any Trinity's venue. Fair price and top quality. We recommend having a main and a dessert; it turned out to be enough for lunch. The couple costs 38£ excluding service charge. The wine list is rich, full of fairly priced options. The house wine selection is great enough and gives the flexibility of having a 500ml instead of a liter, for more moderated sundays ; South London vibes all over the place!
Absolutely wonderful restaurant. Great food & drinks. Menu online is a little different to in person but still they cater to every need. We came for our friend’s birthday and despite there being 11 of us girls they served us with pure patience and care. They were attentive, the food was beyond yummy and they made the whole experience great. It felt like the staff liked their jobs and weren’t just being paid to be nice to us lol. I think it’s my top 3 restaurant in London.only photo I have was of our mains as we were all too busy having fun and enjoying the food. Highly recommend the duck starters, empanadas & steak.
Amazing Sunday roast, good value and excellent wine by glass. Friendly service.Food: 5/5
We had a fantastic three course meal for a very reasonable price. The wine list was extensive, and the service was outstanding. We will be comming back to try out the new menus. Bistro Union had a good vegetarian range in their 3 course option.
We had a delightful evening meal last Friday night. The waiting staff were so polite and efficient. The food ….well….very flavoursome particularly the trout blinis my goodness they were amazing we actually ordered more !!! The main course dishes also exceptional. Thank you so much.. we will be back.Food: 5/5
We had a lovely lunch. The place and the playlist are really relaxing. I have a nuts allergy and the staff took a really good care of me. Thank you very much. I recommend you the brioche with the caramel coulis and the rum and raisin ice-cream
This is a great little place for either breakfast or dinner. The breakfast comes in a frying pan which is a nice touch and you have the option to build your own. We have been here for birthdays and anniversary’s and the most recent for Valentine’s Day. The food was delicious and it’s great to have staff who can recommend wines to go with the meal. We have always enjoyed coming here and will be back again soon!
Great food - beef tartar is just amazing, as well as the mains quail one and monkfish. Even bread and butter are top classFood: 5/5
The moment you walk through the door, it's a warm and pleasant welcome. The staff are smiling and open body language and it's great. When you are seated it's a lovely style with copper and brass fixtures and fittings. The food well that's where it becomes better. The staff make personal options not specials. We had the asparagus and squid to start and it was bursting of flavour. The mains were mother staring the Steak and the crab is what we went for. It melted in your mouth. We then managed to squeeze in some deserts and this was the part I didn't expect. We have desert wine and I choose the gooseberry mess and my friend had the panacotta. The flavours and the wine where like an explosion of flavours and didn't want it to end. The staff are an asset to the establishment. I will be coming back that's for sure. The white wine was also delicious.
